Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Quote: Four pointer is two on each side for a total of four points. A eight pointer has four on each side. We trophy hunt till the end of the season trying to find the biggest bucks. They are so plentiful in fact over populated around here you can get a deer anytime you want if your not trophy hunting. The deer in the picture had three other deer with her but you can't see them in that picture. You can kill unlimited does in my area but only one buck.

Got it. So if you ever hear of someone talking about an odd number of points, you know they've got a special buck!

Not up on the hunting laws here, but I think it's opposite. Does are off limits, but bucks okay up to some specified amount. All the vineyards around here, and there are a lot, have put up deer fencing, and so most of the poor creatures have been pretty thinned out by cars, as their usual trails were blocked off. Gives the vultures something to eat I guess.

ASK and you shall receive hehehe! Comet is on the left, Beanie is on the right. These are the prior owners pics, The black one is her female, and she thinks was beanies offspring before he was gelded.. (oops)

Beanie with a turkey poult. My cornish cross just loved these guys.
I will get more pics soon of my own. Comet is very shy, beanie is a big ham, and much friendlier. They are so soft!

Those guys are great! Love Beanie giving his friend a soft resting spot. Are you keeping them for yarn or weaving? I see you've got a variety of colors! You'll have to give the black one a name.

Not really special with odd points. Just means they have more points on one side and that's not rare at all. What makes them special is the antler length,Mass, Number of score-able points, Symmetry, ect. They have a scoring system in place and the highest scoring bucks are the trophys. There are no Mountain Lions or even bears in this part of Kentucky so deer have only packs of coyotes to prey on them and take out the young or the weakest. Hunters are encouraged to harvest does often to reduce the populations.

Wish the black one was mine too :-( ! she stayed at the owners, she wouldn't part with her. She has her momma yet, and a new male that's not been gelded. I really want to spin yarn, been watching for a spinning wheel. I've crochet my whole life, and do knit a little also. I was so excited to get them, so incredible soft, and the wool isn't "itchy".

they are badly overrun here too. There's no bobcat or cougar left, no wolves, just lots of coyote. I do love venison, but we haven't been able to hunt the last few years. We try to get a younger doe usually when we do go, the bigger bucks are too musty tasting for me. They sure make an impressive mount tho!

What's in season mean? Haha just kidding. Its almost in here. We had that bad long winter here and that was rough two years ago. But I seen plenty of little tracks here, lots actually. There are a few of us that will feed through the winter, they will sneak in close at night for hay too. Not alot of trophy hunting here, but noticed the hard winter had decreased the size and quality of the antlers. A 160lb buck had a 3 point antler...odd. alot of people said the same. I think the type of kill has the most affect on the meat. If you run them, bad meat. Quick clean kill, good meat. Also bringing can help alot.

Most of it has to do with how you prepare it. You don't cut steaks from a old buck and throw them on the grill and end up with T-Bone steak. Its not beef and you can't treat it like beef. Antler growth has a lot to do with genetics and food supply. If they don't get the right minerials in their diet their antler growth will be restricted. Also a deer has to reach maturity to grow nice antlers. Thats why they have "seasons". If you kill and eat your pullets before they mature they won't produce eggs either ACW. lol. Just having fun with you I know how it works in the mountains
