Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

some cities have always had Sunday deliveries, remember, I used to do that Sunday and holiday shift. those are mostly express pieces and live deliveries... all areas used to have Sunday delivery, but over the years, due to budget issues, it got cut all over the place with just a few exception. we have a contract with FedEx and UPS to deliver 80% of their "last mile" parcels. with the disastrous situation last Christmas across the county, weather delays and just plain nightmarish loads of online orders, we can't get the stuff out without using the one available day that we aren't already out there.

I've had a migraine most of the day, so I'm off to bed shortly, but I had such a wonderful afternoon with the flock... it's been so many days of just quick feeding, watering, minimal chores... I got a lot done, and got a little emotional while holding one of the chicks that looks just like Peach that Red came over and literally climbed in my lap and pecked at a tear that landed on my snow pants. he let me have a good cuddle with him too. even Henry let me stroke his tail feathers. Gossamer wasn't very cuddly. she's broody, big time. I'm not doing a New Years Hatch tho.

her crest is filling back in beautifully

and after (only) 18 full weeks, the big babies have decided to leave the nest and take to the roost!
.

Oh, okay. I've never seen anything delivered on a sunday before. This also appeared to be only packages because the guy who delivered ours drove away without stopping at any of the other houses on my block.

The poor lady who delivers our mail has brought it to the door 3 times out of the last 10 because of packages and I've thanked her porfusely every time. The last time she goes "You know, this is how I like to shop, too. From the comfort of my own home!" Poor lady :(.

yeah, it's only parcels on Sundays... and shoo' I would love to be like some of my customers, retired, chilling out at home, shopping... but such is life, and I appreciate the job security from those folks who order so much that I'm at their door nearly every day. it's my pleasure to provide excellent service.

I worked two routes today so I'm pretty beat. it wasn't "dark" out yet when I got home, but it was pretty dark in the pens and most all were settled on the roost. I dished up some feed that they can eat for breakfast before I get out there with more and some fresh water... then had some good roost snuggles.

finally settling in myself, dinner is cooking and I'm watching The Taste which I recorded the other night. love that show!

My mob got free range as soon as they woke up. Someone forgot to shut the pop door last night.

4 of the Seramas are broody, and 3 of them are pullets, about 6 months old. They are supposed to be laying eggs!!!

6 month old pullets going broody...now where have I heard that one before....sounds familiar... ;)

Shadow gave us a fright tonight. Came home after dark and counted my chickens and one was missing. Shadow. Looked all over the yard for her with flashlights. Just when I had accepted that she was gone (it's been that kind of day today) I spotted her. I called her all the names in the book as we worked to get her down but when I had her I admit I hugged her. Stupid birds.

Are you getting much needed rain W4W??
It is raining here right now and I am glad. Little Bit has been sleeping in with Rumples the past few nights. I am not sure why she decided o rejoin her mom, but I am happy. She can help Rumples keep warm. DH and I are going to make a larger box for them to sleep in because Little Bit has been on the outside of the box. The flock got organic bread and sprouts in the suet feeders to keep them amused.

TWO!!

We are getting rain! Nothing drought-endng so far, but every little drop is welcome. Have a bit of sun this morning, so I let the bantams out to graze early, which I don't usually do, but the jays are out squawking and the squirrel is dashing around, so I figured there's no serious hawk danger right now. Fingers crossed. The bantams have been cooped up too much the last few days are are very cranky. It's surprising how much noise those tiny chickens can make when they are in complaining mode.

Did you notice I said graze? We have green grass sprouting all over!!!

Mortie, glad Shadow is okay. We had something similar happen, but all the chickens were missing!

Somehow the pop door dropped down during the day, probably from the wind and my ineptitude at securing it open. When son #2 went to lock them up that evening, it turned into a chicken hunt by flashlight. He found them all, and fortunately it wasn't raining but I'll bet they were hungry that night.

Two eggs so far today. One big, one tiny!

Its a good day to be at home. I am making a ham and bean soup from scratch. I gave the ham bone to the girls and they devoured it!!

Will my Ameraucanas ever lay?? The biddies are 32 weeks old now and I am anxiously waiting for that first beautiful blue/green egg.
