Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

This is one of 2 from Mabel my BR and Red. Both have a white spot on top of their heads, some black on their legs & white wing tips & tummy/chests. Both are bigger chicks already, and really healthy! Those 2 look like happy meal wind up toys zipping around the brooder full speed

Really hoping for a few pullets out of the babies, I plan to keep my first hatch as part of my "egg flock".
Goodness! Half BR and half Red? You are doomed! Wind up toy now, computer-savvy, pie-demanding, sex-crazed, goofball later! We'll see which parent has the more influential genes. She looks all BR.

Hiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!

I found another blue egg yesterday, and a (poopy

) green one the day before. I know I am missing eggs, but until I let the Brats outside, I cannot just dig around in the coop. They are getting better about trusting me, and I don't want to ruin that. It has only been a week, and it is cold out. I have no worries about the eggs still being fresh. I do worry that I will never get the stupid coop up higher so that I can get the stray eggs without crawling around on the ground!
Anyhoot, I had 8 eggs from the Biker Chicks the last 2 days, and one from the Brat's Angels. Today I already have 7 from the big gang. We are off to a great start!
I am also going to work on the new run to get the Brat's Angels outside. Snow and all.
Guess what?? I got a washing machine yesterday!!!

I began my chicken journey last April 10th. By the end of April I had moved out of the old house, and into this one. With no washing machine hook-up. I don't drive, my husband is gone 5 days a week () so I had to wash anything that was too gross in the sink or tub (like when the dog peed on the comforter!). Yada yada, I finally demanded that I get a washer hooked up. I even figured out how to get a washing machine here without breaking our backs or the machine! I went to a used appliance store, told him he could HAVE my old washer and dryer as well as the fridge we bought from him 18 months ago. The houses are only 2 miles apart. He delivered my new (ish) washer about an hour later, and viola! I now have an extra large capacity Kenmore washing machine on the main level of the house! BTW, the dryer was already there.
LOL! The guy had the audacity to say that he would move the stove to our new house for $30! Guarantee he made out with the deal we gave him, but he wanted cash for something!
That's great you are getting 2 different blue/green eggs! Both those new hens you rescued with the pea combs must be EEs, usually good layers. Yay EEs!

When I was a kid, the lady up the road used a washing machine that must have been from the late 30s / early 40s. She had two round open tubs side by side with a mangle in between (two rollers that squeeze-pressed the water out of the clothes). She'd wash the clothes in one tub (that had an electric motor) and feed the wet clothes through the mangle (also electric) to the rinse tub and then back again before hanging out. I think the rinse tub might have been her older, non-motorized wash tub. She had a short hose from the sink to fill the tubs and the water drained out the back door through hoses. Quite a chore, but easy compared to you washing the comforter in the bath tub. It must have taken forever to dry!!
People complain about having to do the laundry, but it's a cinch compared to 100 yrs ago. (Or for you, last week!). Congrats and enjoy!!

Quote: Doing the first load, I was nervously laughing. It felt like a dream! I wasn't fully dressed (TMI, but you get the point), I was warm, I didn't have to add quarters, no looking for other people's forgotten clothes, no worrying about getting the most out of the space in the washer. I didn't have to hurry. And I didn't have to get everything into the car, and fret because I forgot something! We take washing machines for granted. Even having to go downstairs in my apartment (in my twenties) or into the truckstop while over the road, I always had access to a washing machine. I am so happy!!!!

And, yes. The blue/green layers are splash EE.

Oh geez, I was getting you confused with another person who wasn't sure if hers were EEs. I see the splash girls at the end there. The kids have sucked away too many brain cells!

I gave both gangs some peaches today. Peach was hand fed in her nest, she was darling, stretched her neck, puffed her face, made juicy eating noises. the big gang dove right in and devoured them, but I did make sure everyone got a fair share. the chicks... they were so unsure. but eventually, one of them pecked at it just hard enough to get a bit, and then it was on! they've had pears, and applesauce... no pie yet. but the next time the grass is visible, I will celebrate with Pie for everyone! we are getting another storm tonight and tomorrow, worse tomorrow... MC, you gettin' hammered? news said PA was def in the heavy zone...

Nope. My area is just getting its first snowflakes now. It began about an hour ago. Lots of grass showing. About 1/4 the yard. I know Pittsburgh has a foot already.
