Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Awww. Is the world ready for another BR?

Bet you will have two more little surprises in the morning! I was following a recipe one time that said to keep the lid on and "resist the urge to peek." Hope you don't sleepwalk.

Is Peach's water chick proof?

I've already thought about the drowning pool that is Peach's water. I removed it. She doesn't need water til morning, and I will bring her the proper waterer for chicks. I have 2 of them, ready to rotate... I did sneak in using the blue light from my phone, she's sleeping quietly, the eggs are peeping and tapping, the chick is tucked away. I will be getting up super super early to check on progress... I'm so glad I have a short day tomorrow. I can be home shortly after noon if the roads are cleaned up. got a foot plus of fresh snow.

LOVED the Owl and Cat video! that was incredible!

all right... I have the day off... to make a long story short... I was supposed to take old BH to a doc appt in NYC today, made the arrangements 6 months ago, never took it back, so here is the day... and I don't have to go anywhere! good thing, we got about 8" of snow so far, and it's still coming down.

NOW, for the morning's huge news! I'm up, been out to take care of the 2 gangs... and had just sat down with a cup of coffee and Good Morning America... when Peach starts up the alarm! she's making a racket like I haven't heard in weeks and weeks! So, I dash off to the back room. she's up, bokking... and her eggs are PEEPING! all 3 eggs are chirping away! tremendous! I am the most stoked ever! (I missed out on the egg hatching in school, I got strepp throat and was out for a week, of course, that's when the eggs hatched... and by the time I got back to school, all the chicks were already rehomed

)

she ate and drank, and is back on her eggs. I worried for a minute that the movement and chirping had freaked her out and she might not get back on them... of course... I'm a knucklehead... she maybe was celebrating...? oh man... I am just so happy!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see the chicks! 2 are BRx and one is RIRx
OHHHH so exciting!!!!!!

I really like the broody way. For sure the way I would like to go about getting new chicks.

I am still waiting for a broody. Maybe by the end of Summer. The girls are only 8-months-old. I need to be patient ... And buy an incubator.

Beautiful day here. It was in the 40's. We finally got some snow last night, but only about a 1/2 inch. All gone already. I got some things done today. I cleaned the new quarantine where the new gang had stayed for a couple days. It was pretty easy. I did find the remains of another egg on the steps. Darn concrete!

I don't know if I said before, but it is an outdoor access to the basement. There is a light, a window, and 3 landings. There is also a door to keep them out of the basement area. When I was cleaning, I was looking at the other 2 rooms that have doors and windows/ventilation. Not easy to clean, but if there were a hurricane that made me bring the birds in, I would be all set!

13 eggs total today. I am getting confused. I know that whatever color a bird lays, THAT is the color of the eggs, and they will only get lighter as the laying season goes on. Then get dark again after a molt.
Now the question. How am I getting blue eggs now when I KNOW the first few were all green? I think one day I got 2 blue, mostly now I get a blue and a green on the same day. The girls are sisters from the same hatch. They didn't free range, so just one rooster fathered them.
Second, I swear the Marans eggs are getting darker. I will take a picture of today's later. The pint is that I know they are not supposed to change like that. The woman is even willing to replace the girls! I know she just wants to get rid of some more to make room for her hatches.

Let's see. You have 8 laying, I have 16. In 5 days I have had 69. That means you have me beat by 1/2 an egg. At least that I can remember. I had a broken one I fed right back to the girls one day. And I did find that broken one today...

Okay, OK. You beat me.

Thats awesome MC, its like my breezeway/porch I keep the older babies in until they can be outside. It has the dog run with a 6 ft fence, and concrete floors.only thing in there is some storage totes and the freezers. The egg colors, I am seeing that too with my EE, hers went from olive, to blue and now bluish green! The GLW and BR are still pinkish or tan/brown.
