Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

AL, get it off your mind and off your chest. talk to someone, write it out in a journal... put it all down so you can take a good look at everything and put it in perspective. Eat a well balanced supper, then drink some warm milk, or eat cheese and crackers, or celery, no sugar, don't elevate your heart rate after 7 pm and get some rest! google tryptophan containing foods, they help promote relaxation and sleep, like turkey and the warm milk and stuff suggested above...

I've got a pic heavy post coming, that'll put you to sleep!

Great advice. If you need a friend to listen you could send a private message to one of the many "moms" right here. I bet they would be glad to talk, listen, and give advice if they can. Since your a girl I would only recommend another woman. No men. Girls understand girls better. And moms who raise chickens and kids are just simply awesome. They almost always know what to do.

Cheeka that is a great looking bunch of birds you have there. You guys are going to cause me to expand the "hotel" if I keep hanging around with you all. If the little BR goes broody again (Rogers sister) it might be too much temptation not to put fertile eggs under her. I know she is just waiting for warm weather. Somebody help me stay strong.

So a hen at work had 17 chicks. Apparently I have an egg thief. Couldn't figure out why I could not find any eggs for about 3 weeks. She has been hoarding them! I took 7 from her, she lost 3 the first day, and she has 7 left. Think she will be able to handle 7 or should I chicknap more?

If I had a RIR rooster and just a couple Delaware hens I could raise both black and red sex links. But here is the problem. To get black sex links I need RIR/ BR. If my broody is a BR then its up to my other BR to produce eggs and its just not worth the trouble dealing with her. One egg for a 50 pound bag of scratch. I don't think so..........sorry just thinking out loud

Somebody will know. I thought it depends a lot on the size of the hen and how many she could keep under her. But I will let somebody who knows better give you advice on that one. I get to learn

SBMom, it's likely that she can handle 7 just fine. I've seen broody's raise more than that at one time.

OK, if you are lucky enough to get a broody, I will send you eggs! from the looks of my older gals heads and backs... all of their eggs are fertile.

the meal worm farm is doing great!, lots of new critters in varying stages popping up out of the wheat bran!

thanks for the compliments on the pics... I just love those silly birds. I think they are all so beautiful. I could start getting eggs from the wee gang in about 45 days.

If she has a safe place that they stay in she should be ok. If even mice can get to them, I would chicknap! Rodents will kill and eat chicks. Just depends if its predator free or not.

I had a broody last summer/fall. I'm pretty sure she will go broody again in the spring. Glad to hear the "farm" is doing well. Now if you have not read up on it the black beetles are what you are waiting for. They lay the thousands of eggs that become the meal worms. It will really take off this summer. Don't forget the carrot.....that reminds me. Gotta close the pop door and feed the worms their carrot. Be back

Well, they are free range. In the petting zoo. There is some protection from the elements, and there isn't many rodents there. I will see if I can chicknap some more if she has 7 still come Sunday. How long before hens will wean? I've got a hen with atleast 6, if not 8 week old, maybe even 10 week old chicks.
