Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

That's great that they're laying in the boxes, and they do seem to prefer privacy when laying. Some new layers will produce the oddest eggs. Just takes time to get the plumbing in order. Mine are out every day and will go back to the coop to lay. Once one or two start, the rest tend to follow.
I hope this is the case, the leghorns have not started laying yet, and I don't particularly want to keep them all locked up until they do, I got 4 beautiful brown eggs this morning, but still no white ones, despite all being the same age, and the fact that leghorns are known to lay young.

Looking at the beautiful egg basket of yours cheeka, I'm looking forward to spring, I'm going to get a few colorful layers with next years batch of meat birds.

Lots of nice pictures from all of you. Glad everybody is doing reasonably well. Good to see you check in MC and the kitchen does look great. My time is limited this time of the year. Lots of work to keep me busy. Add the fact that it is deer season in Kentucky and that takes up the rest of the free time that I don't have.....well chickens gotta have venison and I need antlers. So we manage. Just a little update on my chicken world. RK Broody has her feathers back and is beautiful again. She continues her life as a mommy hen to her 11 chicks that will soon pass her up in size. I am super happy for her and the offspring that she has raised. I still believe that I have 10 pullets and one cockerel. Can you believe that luck. The whole situation is unbelieveable and I am most happy for the poor, once battered. RK Broody who is now living her chicken dream and loving her new life.
Little BO is doing pretty good as well. As you recall she was unable to walk for some time. She is not near normal yet but has made great progress. She can walk and goes about her business every day. She does rest a lot but can go anywhere she wants to go. Scratching is a problem for her because she has not fully regained the use of her legs. She is very vocal and seems happy. It is still a mystery what happened to her. She fits in nicely with the chicks and
R K Broody and it is all one big happy family. Little BO still roost on the floor but that is probably best given her condition. Normal chicken except a little slower walking and rest a lot.
The friend who took the Delaware Roo is so happy with him. He has a good home now as the only rooster. Glad that worked out. My RIR Rooster has become a great looking bird as well. He loves to crow and has several girlfriends now. One of them is not Roger however they do share the same living arrangement. I think he fears for his life. He should. I will leave that alone. If I find him dead I will know what happened.
Other than that one big happy bunch of chickens that I really enjoy working with. Life is good. SIX
