Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I have a spreadsheet that I am keeping track of egg counts on. I have it broken down into breeds/day with totals of each for the month. Here is my sheet from the day my comets started laying.... I add notes regarding eggs to the side as needed. I keep all other information such as hatch, deaths, injuries, illness on a calendar.

omg MC... that's a can of worms that I have not allowed myself access to. I do keep track of eggs. but only the total number with an occasional reference to colors... and only Peach is documented during her laying times. how many eggs/days before I should expect her to go broody... I did note that Blu finally laid 1 egg after molting... I have OCD. bad. especially for things like lists... so I have to be careful about creating new rituals. What I give myself absolute freedom to do is create route information. I know dozens of routes. in 4 counties... I have keys to more than a dozen Post Offices... so I make Case Maps, Route Books and info cards to place in the case to remind me of things. the case map is a list of all the road names for a route in alphabetical order, followed by a code that indicates where that road is located on the case used for sorting the mail. the info cards get placed in the case in the prescribed location (dog warning cards...or turn around here). The route book is for the road. it's a step by step description of every turn and road name. also has each stop as well as such and such box is vacant or a forward... makes it really easy to learn a new route, and because I have made these things, it's then easy for anyone to learn the route, so I share. I also make parcel markers to place on top of a persons mail to remind me that they have a package... I don't make mistakes... or I don't like making them... and all this stuff I do makes it easier to fix mistakes before they are delivered (or misdelivered) So the big thing I do is make updates to the route files. besides, I'm obsessed enough with chickens, I haven't taken pictures of much anything else for 19 months... I couldn't tell you who laid what from the EE's, although I do know what color all of my girls do lay. took almost a year to catch each one at it... but that's bc I have too many chickens...

What is too many chickens? I do not believe in the idea of too many chickens. That is like saying, "I have too much intelligence."

Ha ha. Okay, so you don't go overboard on chicken lists. I get it. And there is nothing wrong with making lists that make your job easier and more efficient.

I have to say I am pretty basic with the record keeping. Hash marks on the calendar, with squiggly ones for the blue eggs. I love the idea of the spread sheet, for me, it would have to be really wide for all the varieties (just call me Nora, the female version of Noah), I want to keep two of each

. A note book is a good idea too. More room for notes, daily or weekly...

OK-can you keep us posted on Roger's egg laying? I know it is getting time to change those batteries! Don't tell her that Energizer now makes a 10 year battery for smokes! She will never lay!

Cheeka-Impressive system for your routes! And kind of you to share. Some people wouldn't want to share all that hard work!

actually it was the perfect outlet for my OCD needs. I got control over my OCD in my 20's... good thing or I'd have had problems. I could so see myself being the nutty lady I deliver mail to only on Friday because she has to wash her way to the mailbox, take the mail, put it in a bag, wash the box, wash her way back to her house, and then wash each piece of mail... the UPS man is terrified of her. first time he had a parcel for her and pulled in, got out... started walking to her house... she came flying out like a bat, screaming to stop right there! put the box down! back away! she had to wash her driveway... the whole 9 yards...

I've trained lots of carriers, many continue to use my techniques and it's spread further. I don't mind sharing, I've sold plenty of ideas to the companies I've worked for over the years. sometimes it's more important to share it... besides, it's not "work" for me, I love doing it while I listen to TV or music... I've had a few Post Masters ask me to make case maps for a routes that they would like to learn so they can help case mail. those PM's are great - they will case up the mail for someone like me,who has to come help out in a pinch... saves a couple of hours especially if the route is unfamiliar... I've been thrown to the wolves on several occasions and made to sort mail on a route that I have no clue... not been to the town, don't know a road or a family... that's what inspired the idea to begin with... and when supervisors wouldn't help me sort the mail, I would not be available the next time they needed help... the one's who set me up so all I have to do is pull the mail down into delivery order and split... gold stars... and help anytime...

my chicken ocd is photos... and I post them all over the place, here, fb, google communities, and I just started the new fb page to focus on the boys. it's almost too much... but I hit each one at least once a day, here I post lots!

I got 7 eggs today... YAY YAY YAY!!!!!

6 from the G.comets and 1 from an EE.... I think it was a candy bar girl other than Hershey though because it is fatter than hers normally are!
That brings the monthly total up to 115!!!!!!!!

OK does that mean I have gotten more eggs in 25 days than Roger has laid EVER? LOL....
