Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Now I have puppy fever! I love crates with puppies. It's kind of like an off switch so you can take a bit of a break

Beautiful chicken pictures and sunset picture. I remember when I was contemplating moving from Oregon to NM, and I didn't want too, but then seeing the sunsets told me I would find beauty here, too.

The screw thing worked like a charm for the roost. Now, onto the next project - a lid for the brooder tote with a sliding window screen.

yep, those pics are from yesterday, the grass is still mostly green, few brown spots... but it was gorgeous yesterday, the sunshine was very welcome!

lindz, that pup... your kids... so precious! glad you are all on the mend! just in time to celebrate the New Year!

I have 5 Eggs so far today, and Marans, Cosette was sitting on last check. so... I have these eggs, and I have eggs from earlier in the week, and I have 4 eggs from the other day when I knew I had 5 but one eaten...and the yolky eggs needed washing. well... one of the ickiest was pink, so I was happy, another 13 month old had resumed... well... it's not. it's the lightest shade that isn't white I've seen. I do believe I got my fist Cochin egg! it's not so small that I would immediatley have put 2 n 2 together when I collected it... but I have another exactly like it from today! a lovely new shade for my pallet. I have pics, will upload later. I need 2 dozen for tomorrow, and I've got it with 3 left over plus Cosette's and any other that I haven't collected yet... I haven't gotten an egg from the Fosters since the first week, think they've been here for almost a month now... they should start again soon (I hope)

it has been raining for a couple of hours and it is just at this very moment turning over to snow. we're only due to get an inch.

Here is a picture of a G.comet egg, a bantam cochin and then a tiny fart egg from a couple of months ago.... I didn't think there was a huge difference in the cochin egg, just a bit smaller.
Cheeka, are your cochins bantam or LF?

Cheeka, I went back and looked at the posts.... It has been exactly 4 weeks... you brought them home on Dec 1.

well cool, thanks for looking! okay, so I better start seeing some pullet eggs from them soon! I don't expect many yet from the older girls even tho' some of mine have resumed. my Cochins (except for Peach) are Large Fowl., and when I say large... I mean ground shaking. these... ahem... ladies... are the biggest of my flock!

Line of Comets!

Rogue posing!

Snickers moved on me!

The cochin pullets

Carmello, Twix, Hershe

One of the Marans boys... photo-bombed by Snickers

Rogue and some of the girls

Bonnie's close-ups.... do you think she is my mystery layer?

Then I would guess that their eggs will be as big as any of your others! All my cochins were bantams, and even then there wasn't a huge difference in egg size.... I would say that they laid a Med size egg, although I never had an egg scale.

I went down and spent a few minutes with the chickens this evening. I got some pictures of everyone, and I actually caught Bonnie for the first time in ages! I am not sure if she is my mystery layer or not. Rogue also mated Snickers while I was down there, and it may be her as well.... I have heard of people putting food coloring in the vent to see who was laying, and at the time I thought that was crazy! Now not so much....

I am considering it! LOL

golly I love Snickers looks! she's right between my Merry and my Beryl... they both have the gold breast and silver and black heads and backs... not sure if Bonnie looks close enough to be your mystery layer, depends on how tall her comb is going to get...could be tho'. I've heard of the food coloring too, or a lipstick. (that you would seriously mark as chicken butts only...)

the snow is so dense and wet, it knocked out my internet for a few hours, thought at first that it was the sky... (I have satellite) but the TV was still working... but at 7, the TV started dotting up, so I checked the dishes and they both were pretty covered. the TV dish is easy, and as soon as I swept it off, it cleared right up. the internet dish is up on the roof of the addition, so I have to drag a chair out to stand on and take my the broom with the longest handle. that one is a push broom and it's kind of heavy, but I got the snow off (dumped most of it on my head...) et voila! I'm back online! and the forecasters were wrong. we have 3 inches already and it's still snowing.

Here are a few pics from the Marin headlands. Most of the other photos have goofy people in them!
San Francisco is right of the GG bridge. The Pacific tides surge into and out of the bay under the bridge, making it one of the more dangerous spots around to be in the water (even after eliminating the factors of 55* water and great white sharks around).

You can't see them, but here are a bunch of harbor seals down on the rocks and swimming around too. Arf arf arf! You can see how dry the hills are. It's never exactly lush or anything, but this is the lowest amount of rain on record for the season to date.

The land over there is on the other side of the bridge and south of the city. Somewhere in the foggy area off to the right (where you might just be able to make out the land mass) is the small town of Pacifica, where hubby and I lived before moving back up north to be closer to family. We had a lovely ocean view from our house, on the 3 days out of the year that the ocean was visible! Locally, Pacifica is known for its yearly street festival called the Fog Fest. No sun screen required.

I'll try to do a better job taking pics to show you what its like around here. Got to play around with the camera and try some different exposures.

Heheh. Had to practice getting pictures off this computer while hubby is still here to help me when I get lost in stupid Windows 8.

Freckle, the gold sexlink, is inspecting the Serama gang. She looks like a giant!

What happened to Donut in this pic?
a) He was in the middle of performing his "roll over" command.
b) He was scared stiff when a big hawk flew over.
c) He was hypnotized and turned into a chicken zombie.

Cheeka, awesome pics, love the dancing roo in #2!
I love the in-motion shots,just too cool!

Sully, X2, we set eggs and they are due the 17th, its a hatchalong!!!

Lindz I just love Rachet, what a cutie pie

You can see he will be quite the character!
Not sure on the roo confrontation either. It may cause problems too early, but also prevent them.
Main thing I would worry about is the pups eyes, roosters are pretty good at aiming with the claws!
