Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Well, the girls (4 hens) are gone. I am going to miss them. Before they left, I got three eggs from them. Penny just laid hers (finally!!!) a few minutes ago. I was half afraid she wouldn't with everyone in the nesting room/chick room/ small coop.

Lots of names, but it will soon have one more. "medium coop". I am turning the brooder into an actual small coop. I will add walls, access doors, and a RUN! It doesn't matter if I am using it for quarantine or chicks. I hate leaving a bird in there without outdoor access! The plan is to use whole sheets of plywood as opposed to having to cut. I am afraid of electric saws, and my husband can't cut a straight line on a 2X4! The plan is simple. Let's see how complicated it can get!

How is everyone else doing today? We have really nice weather, so I am playing with the garden area, and adding more sand to the coop.

Hi MC! Soggy and drizzly here. Supposed to dump several more inches tonight and tomorrow. So nice your chickens left you farewell presents!

I gotta go and help my sister fix up her new house. Lots of nasty carpeting to remove and painting and planning new cabinets for the kitchen. Meanwhile, my house is a mess!

Now, I am wondering if Roger somehow got ahold of these two young, impressionable girls, because unlike all the others, they decided to build a nest on the floor. I knew that Nox was working on doing just that

, but was surprised to find two eggs in the floor nest. So excited!!!

hi gainke10 ~ he's a keeper for sure! and a rare find...

Lilwanis ~ such pretty eggs! I love the blue-green, very soft pastel... so cool!

my house is a disaster... and I will do a few chores tonight, but! I was very productive outdoors today! I got all of the flex-o-pane up and bolted in place. it looks great, completely clear, yet durable and there are zero drafts in the enclosure now, but it is very well ventilated. I had leftover chicken veg soup and a quart container of the skimmed fat from when I made the soup... I took a large spoon full of the fat and blopped it in a bowl, filled it with hot soup, made a smaller one for Peach and Si to attach to the wall ~ the instant the big bowl was on the ground, it was ON! by the time 30 seconds had elapsed (the amount of time it took to attach the small bowl to the bunji wrap) and turn around ~ they had completely devoured the entire bowl! 30 seconds! so, I made them another. I bring out buckets of fresh hot water 2ce daily, I swear these birds dunk their heads, not just their beaks...! they really like the hot water... I'm so relieved to have all the plastic up finally... if they are going to dunk their heads, at least they won't get frostbitten from drafts...

I had checked for eggs when I first got home, and there were 2 birds nesting, then a 3rd... then Isis came out announcing her job well done, and another went in... after the plastic was up, there were 4 eggs warm and waiting for me to collect them. the 2 BR's (of course...lol) are the slackers o' the day!

I picked up chick feed after work today as well... can't wait til Tuesday!!!

The first one is quite good, and I like NACHOS. (Really, they're yummy.) There's a great song for it too. "Nacho, nacho man..... I want to be .. a nacho man...."

nacho cheesy grin

I'm waiting to hear from ACW as to whether the first one might slip by the "auditors" simply because it spells out... well... y'know... but it covers all potential holidays...
I think for the benefit of everyone on this wonderful family friendly site...best to stick with SCRATCH

... or NACHOS

I think both are perfectly fine, one more specific and the other all encompasing! Go. Time is getting short isn't it! Every bodies back to laying regular...I think that snow storm stopped things for a bit, and several pullets are adding their eggs...bout time! So nice today, even ditched the jacket..felt like spring! Odd but i think roger texted one of my roos, he came over to where I was sitting, not three feet from me...and just looked at me. Like a statue...not a sound....odd, he just looked...finally I got the message and went over to feed everyone. They never do that. Two stags got yanked and locked up for creating a major disturbance at roost time, one got the boot and locked out. Then, after he was suitably frantic about missing curfew, I let him in....straight to bed mister. Any body need some roos? Haha.

You are one tough chicken wrangler, teaching that rooster a lesson. Bird brains? People think chickens are stupid, but they're smarter than we think. Well, maybe Silkies and Polish excepted!

I hate them bedtime fights. But if I was a chicken I would get mad too if my roosting partners didn't all face the same direction. With a poop board 4 inches under the roost pole wouldn't you? Is that asking too much roger.

so funny OK! mine hang their heads so low at night, I would think 4" would be in dipping range... lol

mine have been changing their nighttime routine a lot. first they moved out of the coop, then they all tried to squeeze together on one roost instead of spreading out, then they spread out... then 2 of them moved BACK into the coop (Guess Which Ones? barred rocks)
