Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I really need to get the old double rabbit hutch rebuilt! I had to tear the chicken wire off to make it into an outdoor chicken quarantine. Now I am facing facts, and realizing that I am making another coop. I think I have decided on a design. It will be a small, 4 chicken coop.... Or maybe an 8.

I have to do something! I am picking up my trio on Tuesday, and I have nowhere to put them! It was supposed to be in the 40's today, but last nights snow is still on the ground. There is still chicken wire on the hutch, and I am giving up on getting the little pieces. I will just have to be sure to cover the sharp parts.
I am feeling very antsy today. IDK if I can muster up the patience to work on it.

I hope I am making sense. If not, ignore this post.

Perfect sense, I get a pair of needle nose pliers and twist pull, usually can get the stuff off. Good luck!

1 goose egg 3 chicken eggs today! So happy with my australorp babies, they are precious. We bought a good paint sprayer and have a ton of spring stuff planned. I need 1 more building, thinking 3 hoop coops. my geese are over the top aggressive since the eggs are being laid, even my favorite WeeWee is getting nippy, she usually gets in my lap. not happening, she won't even let me look in the nest. I have to scoop her out of it and have the heavy welding gloves on now lol! guineas have paired off, and the little cocks are taking my rooster on, had a lot of fights today. I was very close to putting one in the freezer,

he dared to challenge me during feeding time, actually bit my leg. i had my hands on his neck and feet, but Quasey was crying her head off. Ugh silly girl, she picked the mean one. I moved the geese and gave them a pond side view house lol.The scovies and guinea are getting a hoop coop.Neither are laying yet, but the hormones are sure creating problems...
My oldest daughter stopped to get gas and saw a rooster running around the parking lot, guess where he is... Beautiful bird, very mean australorp? i think. he nailed her on the arm, but she caught him, this was right next to the interstate too. So i added 2 roosters this week

I have almost every dog crate full for quarantine, and my lavender orps are n the way. Guess i better get my tools out, need more buildings. And we got our new piglets home! ! Hereford boar, maybe 60 pounds, a tiny Little Berkshire gilt, she is 15 pounds at most. Both are just terrified, Roxy is already snuggling the boar.

Holy cow!!! And pig. And goose, and guinea, muscovy, alpacas, oh yeah, and chickens! I'm sure I've left things out. You sound so busy. At least it will keep you out of trouble.

Spring has come early to your place, though. The sap is rising! Is the rescue rooster really mean, or just scared and trying to protect himself? It's kind of their job, but he shouldn't keep going after people once he calms down. If you can look at the bottoms of his feet, an Australorp will have white pads. If you see yellow, he's definitely something else. Soup? Stew?

I have to laugh over the name WeeWee. It's not the first time I've encountered that name. When I finally got brave enough to leave home and head for college, I roomed with a friend from grade school who eventually married her high school sweetheart and left me to find a new roommate. The first person who came to see the apartment was a quick moving, quick talking, young man who introduced himself as WeeWee. (I had to ask him to repeat himself!) He quickly checked things out and after 10 seconds, said, in a very heavy Chinese accent, "I like it. When can I move in?" Being naive and having neglected to state that I was looking for a female roommate in the ad, I made some excuse about more folks coming to look, and poooof, he was gone. "Okaybye!" drifted back as he disappeared out the door. Has to be the most memorable personality I've ever spent less than a minute with!

wow JCH, you've been very busy! sounds like so much fun!

well.... I really only stopped by briefly to catch up, and to say that this morning, at 6:30, all is still dark, and quiet... I'm tiptoeing through the kitchen to make coffee and I hear it. the feeble effort of a young cockerel's crow. coming from the back room. I must be hearing things. so I made a little noise. another er-er-erhhhhh. that's it! lights come on, I go in... and cockeyed carol has a bunched up comb that is pink. everyone else still has flat. kind of pale yellow, combs. bummer. now I can see some bright red patches appearing on the brown saddle feathers. he can't stay. have a great day everyone! I'll be back tonight!

Cockeyed Carl now. (Maybe you shouldn't name him.

) Too bad. I heard from the chicken guy at the feed store that the EEs have a higher number of roos in the mix than other sexed breeds. That leaves you with 13 pullets now? And you never know what Peach is going to hatch out.

This is RuPaul, one of my two EE pullets. I'm hoping we can go visit him this summer. I really want to see how he turned out.

I vote for making room for 8 so when they have chicks, you will have more room for more Marans. Haha! Vicarious chicken math!

three eggs laid in the apple coop. and I managed to get home at 4:30, so the gang got to spend an hour outside before dusk. I'm not being fooled into thinking that Spring is here early... we are supposed to get some snow over the weekend, and temps are dropping back to a more normal February #, but we might have another warm up by the middle of next week... up here on the mountain, March comes in like a lion, and goes out like a pack of lions. it ain't over.

Very nice, OK.
Today I manged to get two cinder blocks under the coop frame. I think 4 more should do it. The frame is 4X8. I have 2 on the 4' side, but think 3 going along the 8' side makes more sense. Anyway. After 2 blocks I was pooped (that frame is HEAVY!!) and I realized that I have a hinged door on the new bottom.

So I have to stand the thing up, remove the door (I need the hinges for another door anyway) and fasten it on right. I think I can have the whole thing done in a few hours if I keep at it. I do need my DH to saw a board in half for me. I just hope he cuts straight this time! I also need chicken wire. I have hardware cloth. I am pretty sure I have enough of that. I just have to remember ventilation! I was planning out the final design today, and forgot while I was imagining it. Silly me. It really has been a long day. I found 12 eggs. One I am pretty sure is not from today. It was cracked anyway, so the girls got it.

W4W, RuPaul is so gorgeous! glad you were able to find a home for him, it sure would be cool to see him all grown up. my boys are splendid, none of them are a year old yet, but they are so cool. Si is my favorite (again) because he is more like a parrot than a chicken. he will climb on me from his roost, most of the time, just on my arm... but he's occasionally made himself comfy on my shoulder. he follows me everywhere, perping (so like my Barney) and I can touch him anytime, pick him up anytime... he doesn't flap, not even when I put him down. he is the most gentle bird. he's a bit on the small side, but his personality is so good... any male offspring should inherit that same personality. Archie is simply huge. he's only about 8 months old, and he's so tall, about 20" already. he does not challenge me, he stays out of my way as best as he can, and he's incredibly watchful over the flock. I can pet him on the roost. I can also pet Royce on the roost, and he's broadening at 9.5 months. he's right between the other boys as far as height, but he's super thick in the breast, and gorgeous. getting the bright red orange yellow sunburst combo... love em! but I can't have more boys. I offered "Carl" to a friend, she will let me know tomorrow... her only hesitation is the cold weather. he needs to be acclimated... which he's not. I'll keep him til April 1st if she will take him. otherwise... I may eat him. we all know it's hard to find homes for the boys.
