His only issue is lots of scar tissue on his legs/feet from mites. Any ideas on how to fix that?

Poor guy, that must have been miserable for him. He is lucky you found him!I put a thread up over in diseases. And I took a picture. I've been doing some reading, and it looks like a good soak and a light scrubbing. Then castor oil, will be our best course of action.

that's such a great idea Sally, that's what I did for myself for my birthday... got chicks...wish my birthday was in the summer... now I just have to convince Peachy not to brood in winter.
one of the SLW eggs broke under Violet today. so she's down to 7.
I got 17 eggs today out of 19 (Peach is back to laying) worked the short route and when I got home there was almost no chores to do! how nice is that??? especially since it was 91* and felt like 97*... actually it was a bit cooler at home, but only about 4 degrees... then we had a humongous thunder and lightning storm with tons of rain... it's so much cooler now.
Linda, x2 with Sally, really hoping you're feeling better!!!!!!
Thanks you guys and greetings from Hawaii (the Big Island)! Can't say that I'm up and dancing, but managing things okay (lots of ibuprofen - I should buy stock!) We are staying south of a little village called Pahoa, a few minutes walking distance to the ocean. Mostly lava rocks and very few beaches, but some good areas for snorkeling and swimming in little ocean pools that are naturally thermally heated. So far we have seen one muscovy duck (hanging out down the street) and a few flocks of roaming chickens here and there- causes almost as much excitement as the beautiful green geckos that wall walk around the house. Today we pulled over by the side of the road to check a map, and about 5 or 6 young cockerels came running up to the car from the edge of the![]()
woodsjungle. Apparently they have learned to beg for food from passersby; we crinkled a bag as a test and they got very excited. The adult chickens showed up soon after. No obvious breeds, just long legged thin types of all different colors.![]()
Tomorrow we are going to do touristy stuff up around Hilo, There is a very cool botanical garden and some waterfalls. Next day will be exploring Kilauea at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, although some parts of the park are closed due to excessive fumes.![]()
The pictures are great and I'm keeping up with all the news, but sitting and typing at the computer is very hard on my "condition" so I won't post too much, but have to say that the pic of Mylee-the-little-pink-speck running down the mowed path was my favorite... until I watched the video of her chasing butterflies. So sweet! And ladybug boots! They would look great with the ballerina swimsuit.![]()
Take care everyone and happy chickens!!

Sounds like you are having a wonderful time![]()
I want to visit there so much! DH was stationed with a good friend that was born and raised there. He is so sweet, I love to talk to him on the phone. ( Its the same guy Ron that lives in Vallejo now) He tells me about how each island is different, and how pretty it is! The pools seem to be wonderful for sore joints, he has elbow probs and tells me about lying in them to feel better.
Be careful on the Ibuprofen, it can really tear you up internally. sure does the job on a sore back tho!
Thats so cool on the wild chickens! I would be parked there all day!
