You are so lucky to get to see stuff like this everyday! HOPING FOR LOTS OF EGGS TODAY!

I do love being outdoors and in such lovely country... there's always something to see... I just missed a large flock of wild turkey, dozens of awkward teens trying to keep up with their Moms... they got into the tall grass... oh well. I only got 4 Eggs, but one of them is sure to be a double yolk, I'll find out tonight, it's eggs for supper! just to decide how... poached in a lovely sauce or with hash, or bacon... or sausage - I've got them all... I should use the sausage, so maybe poached in sauce with sausage... I'm so hungry now!

That sounds yummy! We are having grilled chicken. I have to go to the store and get eggs, because these moochers in my yard aren't giving me any!

Cheeka, sounds delish! May I ask what kind of sauce you are making to go with your poached egg? Our gals are just going into full molt, :/ so, eggs are few and far between. :(

Love the photos of fall colors. DH has family in upstate NY, Boston, PA and West VA...beautiful this time of year! (Just not to much on the winter snow storms, although beautiful!)
Not going up this season, just going to hang around down south and dodge tropical storms and hurricanes! :idunno heehee

Quote: Lovely fall colors! Its started here too, crimson reds, sunny yellows. Kinda sad too, I love being outside. Cold, not so much, ugh. Hope winter is gentle and leaves quickly.
What a big fella! I can't see the back of the shell and tail, but sure looks like a snapper. Have dealt with a lot of them stuck in window wells.
I use a shovel, lift them out and put in a big tote. Have seen them snap off a broomstick handle, the necks are Looong! and they are pretty mean.
there's so many retention ponds around the highways etc not too hard to find them a new home. I won't let them stay here, they will eat ducklings and goslings.
I never let them out near someones home or farm, kids don't realize how mean they are. And there's some who really like them for the table too, never tried it.

This is hilarious!!!!! Guess what her name is? LOL..... Sydney.

I was in the van trying to back up, and she wouldn't get down!
Good name!

Won't get off the car, huh? I have long wondered if they are fearless or just a little dumb. Everyone in the neighborhood knew Sid. He'd hang out at the end of the driveway so he could score some scritches when people were walking by. Never knew a cat that would approach strangers like that. They all thought he was cool. I wondered, though.

thanks. Seeing the last one grown and gone, turning the big "5 0" next week has had me a lil bummed.
I really need to reduce! Thinning out the flock for winter, sold around 60 guinea already! Quite a few turkey poults too. After adding the 3 lil piggies, All I want now is cows.
Hopefully should have piglets, lots of piggies by late summer next year. And a few more goats by fall!
A bunch of us on the indiana thread are going in together on a porters heritage turkey order. We will get the poults early spring. My main focus is going to be bourbon reds, they are just sweet birds. May do holland whites too, they are a huge breed. Adding the mini whites next year also, have had a lot of friends and neighbors ask about them. Sticking with my australorps and orps and getting away from the GLWs.
OEGB eggs are no bigger than quail eggs! OH MY!! I used my quail rails in the incubator to set them! My girls have laid 6 so far. The sebright Fergie shocked me, her egg is as big as the guinea eggs. Hers are showing fertile from the very first one, so far no veins on any of the oeg's. I have some silver laced polish I am really pleased with, beards & muffs, waiting for them to lay too. Super sweet friendly birds, really enjoy them.
Ha! I'm right behind ya on the Big 5-0, few more months. Sad thing is I'm already completely comfortable with the age because (here's the sad part) I generally can't recall how old I am

so I've been "almost 50" for a few years now.

I've been presented with a challenge... my Dad wants to know what this yellow and red item is in his salad. he must have asked his server, because he's offering a prize to my brothers and me if we can figure it out... it almost looks like a slice of lemon, colored with strawberry vinegar... but it looks like a flower... so before I answer, I figured I'd cheat and ask y'all for help. his prizes are usually silly, like a super bouncy ball or some such that can be purchased from the little vending machines at the market...if "we" win... I'll send anyone who helps identify this a bag of mealworms...
I've had these before! Took us a while, and a few nibbles, to figure out what they were. Very mild.

well, we were spot on with the watermelon radish, and I won my Dad's prize, all he said in a message was YOU WIN... so I don't know what it is yet... my bet would be some junky jewelry from that 50 cent dispenser, cuz I'm a girl... lol

I did poach some eggs in my homemade pasta sauce, something a babysitter taught me when I was about 9, traditional Italian dish and really good.

that snapper was on the large side of medium. it's tail was as long as my boot, and at the base attachment to it's body, as wide as my boot... lots of folks here do eat them, and yes, even my neighbor (the nosy's) kill them outright because they drown the ducklings and goslings in the pond, and don't even eat them often... it drives them crazy to have them drowned - it would be "better" if the turtles would eat them... I took a video, but I wasn't able to put music over the audio for some reason... so I sound stupid... but here it is so you can see the size...http://youtu.be/gFMk_RQikyk there was a lady with me, she stopped to see if I needed help and to take pics... I didn't need help, and she wouldn't have been any anyway, she was so afraid of it... funny... most of the time, I just pick them up from the back end of their shells, they can't reach that far around, but this one's shell was really scummy, and very slippery, so I couldn't get a good grip. after the video... I just had to put down the camera and move it properly...there was nothing wrong with it, it was sitting on one foot for leverage on attack... but it was sitting funny...

I have a new layer! yipee!!!!

I haven't seen that lovely shade of brown since I lost Violet on 7/31... it's perfectly egg shaped and nice and clean - no blood, AND I found it IN the nest!!! I asked the girls, but no one claimed it... Wilma wanted to peck it. the EE truly looks closest to POL, but I'm guessing it's one of the Marans. because they are crosses, they won't lay the super dark eggs... but I don't care. I'm so ding dang happy!
