You are so lucky to get to see stuff like this everyday! HOPING FOR LOTS OF EGGS TODAY!
That sounds yummy! We are having grilled chicken. I have to go to the store and get eggs, because these moochers in my yard aren't giving me any!I do love being outdoors and in such lovely country... there's always something to see... I just missed a large flock of wild turkey, dozens of awkward teens trying to keep up with their Moms... they got into the tall grass... oh well. I only got 4 Eggs, but one of them is sure to be a double yolk, I'll find out tonight, it's eggs for supper! just to decide how... poached in a lovely sauce or with hash, or bacon... or sausage - I've got them all... I should use the sausage, so maybe poached in sauce with sausage... I'm so hungry now!

Quote: Lovely fall colors! Its started here too, crimson reds, sunny yellows. Kinda sad too, I love being outside. Cold, not so much, ugh. Hope winter is gentle and leaves quickly.
What a big fella! I can't see the back of the shell and tail, but sure looks like a snapper. Have dealt with a lot of them stuck in window wells.
I use a shovel, lift them out and put in a big tote. Have seen them snap off a broomstick handle, the necks are Looong! and they are pretty mean.
there's so many retention ponds around the highways etc not too hard to find them a new home. I won't let them stay here, they will eat ducklings and goslings.
I never let them out near someones home or farm, kids don't realize how mean they are. And there's some who really like them for the table too, never tried it.
Good name!
Ha! I'm right behind ya on the Big 5-0, few more months. Sad thing is I'm already completely comfortable with the age because (here's the sad part) I generally can't recall how old I amthanks. Seeing the last one grown and gone, turning the big "5 0" next week has had me a lil bummed.![]()
I really need to reduce! Thinning out the flock for winter, sold around 60 guinea already! Quite a few turkey poults too. After adding the 3 lil piggies, All I want now is cows.
Hopefully should have piglets, lots of piggies by late summer next year. And a few more goats by fall!
A bunch of us on the indiana thread are going in together on a porters heritage turkey order. We will get the poults early spring. My main focus is going to be bourbon reds, they are just sweet birds. May do holland whites too, they are a huge breed. Adding the mini whites next year also, have had a lot of friends and neighbors ask about them. Sticking with my australorps and orps and getting away from the GLWs.
OEGB eggs are no bigger than quail eggs! OH MY!! I used my quail rails in the incubator to set them! My girls have laid 6 so far. The sebright Fergie shocked me, her egg is as big as the guinea eggs. Hers are showing fertile from the very first one, so far no veins on any of the oeg's. I have some silver laced polish I am really pleased with, beards & muffs, waiting for them to lay too. Super sweet friendly birds, really enjoy them.
I've had these before! Took us a while, and a few nibbles, to figure out what they were. Very mild.I've been presented with a challenge... my Dad wants to know what this yellow and red item is in his salad. he must have asked his server, because he's offering a prize to my brothers and me if we can figure it out... it almost looks like a slice of lemon, colored with strawberry vinegar... but it looks like a flower... so before I answer, I figured I'd cheat and ask y'all for help. his prizes are usually silly, like a super bouncy ball or some such that can be purchased from the little vending machines at the market...if "we" win... I'll send anyone who helps identify this a bag of mealworms...
