Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I was cruisin' home after work, when I thought I saw a bunch of bicycles coming... this was SO cool! I missed the whole parade, but that was fun to see the horses. they all turned right at the corner that's out of sight... so they didn't pass in front of me... I pulled down a side street just in case...

this is going to be my new cover photo on fb. Peachy's egg is all the way at the tip of the bottle, and my new layer gave me the nice large brown egg that's sitting sideways. I'm curious if i'ts a double yolk. it's only the 3rd egg and it's easily double the size of the first 2. I should take a picture of those 3 eggs together...
Loved both pics!

The new girls! Left to right: Hershey, Carmello, Twix
lovely!

Alright guys.... I need help!

So, I went and picked up the new girls last night. Everyone is settling in very well. All the other girls had a really good day foraging and dust bathing!

Then here is the kicker!
I went and got 3 more black copper maran chicks!

I guess I will be getting pictures in the morning.... I put them under Clarabelle after dark tonight, and she acted like nothing was different! Boy is she going to be surprised in the morning!

She now has 10 chicks under her, and it is a good thing that they are starting to get feathers since her little butt can't cover them all completely! The good thing is that they are in the bigger coop which stays a little warmer than the little one.

yep too late for you! You have a serious case of the disease. Temporary relief by adding more chickens!

My RIR Roo.
Wow he is a handsome fella!

What do you see? Pullets or Roos
pullets!
Quote: hehe, cant blame her for trying

Here's my Bday gift.. BR pair, the tom places himself between us and his hen.
She is so small compared to him! They are in my quarantine room.
Thats a jumbo sized dog crate next to him on the right, large enough for my former old english mastiff.
Sorry pic is awful, my cell phone is old

My Oldest DD is sooo sneaky! No camera, yet. But Christmas is coming!

Very cool present. I haven't seen Bourbons in person before. Are they bigger than other breeds? Are you going to breed for sale?

Quote: Thanks, I was very excited! DH bought me a very good headset for my phone too. Plantronics bluetooth thing.
I am so hard of hearing I don't talk on the phone if I can avoid it. Its great, I can hear!
They are bigger than palms, but not as huge as hollands. Next year, I am just getting my turkey flock built up.
I also have 2 poults from 2 different breeders. Looking like another pair, I know the older poult is a young tom.
The younger poult is much different in her sounds, color and growth, so

its a hen!
I am ordering from porters and getting those poults next spring! That will add a 4th bloodline.
After getting my 1st 2 poults, I was so impressed with them. Both have been very sweet and still cuddle on my lap.
My palms poults are friendly and social, but lack body mass. The bourbons are heavier and just adorable!
So will be breeding both breeds, and plan to add hollands and minis next year also.
Once I get a good flock established, I may sell some, but the main reason is feeding the family, so will be picky on health, size and temperament.
Turkeys are seasonal layers, but wow, the eggs are just amazing

Usually from what my pairs breeder said, they start laying in march.
He is only about 8 miles from our house, DD said she saw them on craigslist and grabbed them fast

Good luck! Soon enough u will have plenty of eggs.

Thanks! I am very excited to have them. His daughter won best of breed and several other classes with the tom.
I am concerned that the hen is so small. She is healthy and looks really good!
Glad that breeding season won't start until spring. The tom will not let her out of his sight. and she hovers by him.
She is not much more than a poult, maybe 8 months at best.

It is not looking good on chick adoption #2.... Clarabelle won't let them out of the corner without peeling them. There is one of the roo chicks that goes running to them every time momma goes after them then clucks to them after she pecks them. It is too cute. I think he will probably be my keeper. I am going to watch them today and if she doesn't ease up on them I may put her out and rig up a heat lamp. I am hoping that she is just trying to show who is boss and settles down.

I never intended to go backwards, but don't mind being civil... actually, I'm quite good friends with 1 ex... so I know it can be done. but it can never be accomplished when the past isn't forgiven. I will never tolerate chronic complaining about all my faults when I know how hard I work at everything I do... he's living in a fantasy world where everything is my fault. fine, stay there... he has the craziest imagination where he likes to create all these scenarios of what took place when he wasn't around... the only advice I can offer is ...when you find someone new, be around and you'll see for yourself... and you won't have to drown in the ridiculous...

Janet - those bourbons are fabulous! DD knows how to pull off a great surprise! thoughtful and loving, she is... to give you something that you will truly enjoy and that will also be lasting and sustaining...
