Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

It was something I had never seen before. Pretty odd looking. Figured you might have a idea what it might be or what caused it. That is interesting. Thanks. The little BO made a almost full recovery except she will not get back up on the roost with the rest of the birds and never has since she got hurt or went lame. Instead she roost every night on the edge of the nest box on the floor with her head inside the box and her butt outside the box (perfect). She still lays and raises cane (very vocal) She is very small for a BO but high in the pecking order so no problems with getting picked on. Gets along great with RK Broody and the now grown and laying chicks, Honestly never thought she would live, let alone walk again but she made it back.
I've had several soft shelled eggs (well, my chickens, not me) and haven't seen any cords or anything. The process to form an egg is pretty complex; lots of things can go wrong. There are some threads showing abnormal eggs and it's amazing the weird things that can come out of a hen.

I wish your little BO could give my stupid EE perching lessons. Monkey, for some unknown reason, has decided she no longer wants to roost and sleeps in a nest instead, which wouldn't be so bad except that she also poops in the nest.

Locking up, I would pull her out and put her on a roost. Couple of times she jumped down and got back in in the dark. That got old, so now I just open the external door to the nest and shove her out and stand there and threaten her until she settles on a roost. Can't find anything wrong with her, so hoping she'll get tired of it. I wouldn't mind at all if she had better potty manners.

I am so glad your lil BO is able to walk again. It takes months sometimes, and some just never recover.

Guys, Don't look at this please if you are easily grossed out!

I saw a similar egg posted on the indiana thread. it must be more common than I realized..sorry this is gross...

This hen was older tho. She had stopped laying a long time ago. Her owner took her to the vet after this was found. Poor hen had Ovarian cancer.
(please understand, not saying yours does!)
She had taken to sitting in the nest, wincing, rocking and was in obvious pain. This was what she found the next day when she saw Jersey still in the nest.
My good friend Julie keeps her hens as her pets, so it was very upsetting for her

. She took Jersey in the house and knew by the next day she was suffering.
She had Jersey put to sleep, and buried her at home. She was a JG.

No eggs for me. :( The girls stayed in the run all day because of the snow. It's a short day of work today. Gonna spend some quality time with the girls. :)
My spouts are doing well. BOSS... Alfalfa and wheat.

I had one jar of sprouts go bad this last time. It smelled like beer and was slimy moldy. Yucky! I think I did better with them spread out in the tote.
So far I have already gotten 5 eggs today. I hope to get at least that many more.

Jchny my roos slept in the nest until they were about 15weeks old. You can try putting him on the roost every night and eventually he will get it. You could also block the nest boxes of a night and open them early the next morning if you normally get up and out early enough. (I don't usually lol)

My fodder went moldy at the end but I think it was too warm (heard 60-65 is req temp) and I didn't rinse enough. I thought I was watering too much but the idea is to rinse really well every couple hrs or at least 3x day to keep the starch from building up. I need better trays for draining and I think I'll be good.

Ugh me either! I have been putting him on the roost, so will see if he quits eventually.

So an interesting thing happened this am i found two of my RIR hens trying to sit on one egg. so my question is how do i know if an egg is fettile?
Alright, first off are they broody, or are they just in the nesting box to deposit their own eggs....

Then in order to check fertility, you should be looking at your eggs as you crack them. I don't know of any way to check without cracking them open.
Fertile eggs have a white colored bullseye on the yolk, non-fertile eggs just have a white colored circle on the yolk...

The egg below is fertile.
