It is snowng so stinkin' hard today.... all day. DH is out of town, so I had to shovel snow from the drive, the patio, a path to the toy hauler and the chicken run. The girls were under the toy hauler watching me shovel the snow and when I was done... the took off to the pen.

I haven't had a vacation since October, 2011. I'm way overdue.

that's me! on vacation in 2011... I don't know who the lady is on the right... probably another tourist...

I might be coming your way cheeka for vacation this year. The last couple years we went to the ADKs for a week but we're looking in the Catskills this year cause it's just that much closer!

Yesterday, when I got the broody Silkie to replace the unhappy red Cochin, the car ride and excitement of the move seemed to break her broodiness. She roosted last night rather than sleeping in the cozy nest box with 2 fertile eggs from the breeder. First half of today, no interest in the eggs, so I put her out in the ground cage for some sun and grass. When I put her back in the garage cage for the night, she went straight to the nest and sat and rearranged those eggs.

We put the other egg from the red Cochin and a Serama egg in front of her, sort of as a test, and she quickly rolled them right under! An hour later she had morphed into a chicken pancake and had the glassy-eyed zombie stare of a broody on the job. Hopefully, she will keep it up.

So I skipped the planned photo session. Didn't want to spoil her mood. I can describe her, though. She looks like Cheek's beautiful white Sillie Silkie- if you dyed her black. And if she was a bit ratty looking and missing most of her beautiful fluffy feathers. Oh, and had only a small crest. And no beard, so her black-skinned turtle neck shows. Other than that she looks just like Sillie.

CLindz, the Catskills have just as much to offer as the Adirondacks and it's about 10-15 degrees warmer here, at least in the Winter... we're about the same the rest of the year. you know I would expect to meet y'all... even if you decide to go to the Adk's, I'm on the way...

Lynda, you crack me up...! your description of her turtle neck... omg, too funny! but I am so glad you took her, and I'm delighted to hear that she has already returned to the nest! she'll do it!
