Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Mmmm.... fried chicken...

Around here there would be no leftovers for the chickens! (We have a 6ft tall, 15 yr old hollow-legged boy and 12 yr old boy who is just now thinking about starting a growth spurt. I see bigger grocery bills in my future!)

Sunny and a bit overcast and cooler, which is nice. Upper 60s expected; we had a couple of 80° days recently. yuck

The run for the bantam coop is still in progress. Hopefully this weekend will see it finished. My stupid back has slowed things down quite a bit.
Coop Inspector!

It's farther along than this.
Coop Inspector gave preliminary approval and then demanded to be returned to his girls!

This is where the Seramas spend their days. It's a pain to carry them back and forth to the coop every day. The run will be great!

One of my hodge-podge jobs. Cost 0$ though. We had all this stuff already!

Bitey Kitty is pretty. That's my favorite color nose. (I call it puma-nose!) I had a kitty that was a bit mean to everyone (except me

) and Lily earned the name Psyco Kitty.

W4W.... That's gonna be nice. Your chickens will love it. With me the pain is in my hips and hands.

No eggs yet. Si and Rumples faked me out and did not lay eggs, but Penny just hopped in the coop. Time for lunch and then out to rake some pine needles and leaves to put in the new run.

sunny day.....

I had 24 in mine and when they were mid hatch with chicks running around and shell halves all over and unhatched eggs, it seemed kind of crowded. I think mine held something like 42 at max capacity as well.

I GOT THE INCUBATOR TODAY!
It came with a turner and everything! It will hold 42 eggs.... should I fill it up, or just do a couple of dozen?

What kind did you get? You are going to have soooo many chickens now! Couple people on my local had severe temp spikes with new incubators, a few days into incubating. Electronics needed replacing. Maybe do a test run with fewer eggs first.

Even more importantly, what's on your list for hatching eggs? Cochins?

I am borrowing a Hovabator. My first hatch is going to be just some from my hens, so EE's and Mutts first. If the first hatch goes well, I do plan to get some Cochins, and MAYBE some Salmon Faverolles.

I don't know anything about them in particular but one thing I did before I started incubating my hatch was I ran the bator for a few days to make sure it was stable then I experimented with filling different channels and seeing what it took to get the humidity to the right level without plugging all the vents. That way I knew when it was lockdown time exactly what I needed to do to get the perfect humidity.
