Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Ratchet has hurt 2 of the chickens. A BCM and a Comet. The BCM has bloody bald patches and the Comet is wet, muddy and has lots of missing feathers..... Not sure what I am going to do just yet....
BAD RATCHET!!!!!

Poor poor chickens....

Maybe a little of the Dog Whisperer could help. He has ways of letting dogs know that other animals are not to be harmed.

hugs....

Cody has never hurt my girls or even tried. He did show great interest in them when they were chicks... so did the cats. As the girls got bigger.. Cody was always with us when we would take the chicks outside in a bucket to play in the grass. He knew that they were mine and a part of the family. Of course the chickens outgrew the cats... enough said there.

Sorry about your chickens... Maybe Ratchet was trying to herd them. Cattle dog instinct.

Awwww, I am sorry your chickens were hurt. I felt so bad when Zeph killed my Welsummer pullet, Athena. Hopefully, your chickens will be fine and you will be able to make your cattlemonster understand they are part of the family, not squawky toys.

I got a fairy egg today!

All of 9 grams. It is so cute. Gosh, Hattie is being creative in the egg department, lately. First, she laid them in weird places, and now fart eggs! It will be an adventure seeing what she comes up with for tomorrow.

Do you think that there is a yolk inside of that teeny tiny egg??

Take a picture if you ever crack it open.

I think that I unbroodied Rumples. Not on purpose.... When I lifted the next box lid to take a picture of her flat body... she jumped up and screamed the alarm call. Lord have Mercy she was loud!! Since then... I have found two of her eggs on the coop floor and one of Si's egg on the coop floor. I do believe that someone kicked them out of the nest. Only the plastic eggs remained. Odd..... chickens... go figure.....

My chickens were acting weird today. No idea why. They were given oatmeal raisin cookies this morning, and tonight the got lettuce and celery.
The egg count was low, and the eggs were in corners, near a door, and under the roost. Too much winter?

lindz, you'd be amazed what chickens can endure... if they're still alive in the morning, you have a great chance of full recovery. I've had major skin ripping injuries - Peach's back and Olive's head for starters. I did NOT think Olive could survive. and she's been completely nonplussed about the whole thing. granted, she didn't want anyone to peck her totally open head... but she was safe with Peach in the broody pen. Peach wouldn't get off her eggs to bother her... and then she got to be a good nanny to the babies. I had to work a double today - got a call in late morning that there was a fire, and the carrier in Prattsville is the Fire Chief... so he had to go. but the mail still has to be done - he didn't get back from the fire til 6:30... he would still be delivering mail now if no one could help! I'm so beat, but I got home just around 5 and so the flock was allowed out for an hour. and I got 19 Eggs!

Whoops ~ love that tiny egg! I've seen eency yolks in a few...

oh and...! is Sillie my new layer?

she's NEVER had tinted fluff before. muddy, yes, tinted pink... no. I would have bet real greenbacks that Zira was the one... til I saw this.

Poor hen. I am so sorry she is hurting. The glazed eyes and rapid, shallow breathing are very concerning. Hopefully, someone will have advice to help her out of shock.

I know.... I am going to give her til morning and if she hasn't improved I will probably just put her down.... So disappointing because I was looking so forward to those chocolate eggs! I still have one BCM at least I guess....
