OKAY!!!!! TWO eggs TWO eggs... We laid TWO eggs
today.
I was a beautiful day to lay our eggs. Sunny... warm....

Brinsea ordered from amazon!
12 frizzled polish hatching eggs ordered from eBay!
Divorce papers coming!!! Lol i am in sooo much trouble!!! If I get found out!

I figured I'll give squirt 5 eggs and I'll incubate 7. I'm predicting a 50% hatch rate or less so if I get 5 babies DH never needs to know I got 12 eggs. And that assumes all 12 eggs aren't damaged in shipping!!!
Nice Bator........Good broody........I remember my last dozen ebay hatching eggs. 11 out of 12. You are in trouble

So, last week I told you the happy news that my BA, the lovely Matilda had gone broody.

Since then there have been some new developments. The next day...

At 7:15pm I went to let the mob out into the yard for some weed control. Checked on Matilda and look who I found!

Good heavens! Spot has decided to go broody too??!!

Peach was concerned and tried to talk Spot into coming out to graze with the rest of the mob.

Meanwhile, Poppy checked the garden for kale.

Grace climbed a rock.

Penny inspected the patio for worms.

Grumpus drank out of the dog water while Peach patiently waited.

Biscuit looked for bugs.

There was much comings and goings.

With roosting time fast approaching, I went to check on the two broodies and saw this...

Only Matilda, diligently keeping her golf balls toasty. But no Spot!

However, Spot did leave a calling card. Proof that BRs can lay eggs, Roger!

Seems it was just a false alarm.

She does have that broody stare, though....

One last chance to fill the tanks before heading to roost.

Ahhhh... A good day was had by all.

Belle was happy to get her water dish back.

Mmmmm... Tastes like chicken.

Oh, and the lovely Matilda? She has moved to the far right nest and is still entirely dedicated to warming her golf balls. On Monday, somewhere in the nearby town, an incubator full of Cream Legbar eggs is due to hatch. If all goes according to plan, on Tuesday Matilda will become the happy adoptive mama to two CL pullet chicks.

I posted my boys on CL but after I was done I went back and looked at the listings and saw a couple of other ameracauna roos that had been up for a few weeks. Trying to figure out what plan B is going to be. Plan A was always to just eat them even if they were small but these guys are laughably small. My red chick boys will have some meat on them but these guys will need at least another month to be worth the trouble of butchering.

But you also got only 1 male right? Of course that would be even worse if I had the same luck... at least if I have males I can sell them (I know I could sell the females but I want to keep at least a couple that are frizzle....). W4W - Love the pictures :) Scrambles you are such a good chicken momma to Rumples... That's probably where she learned how to be such a good chickie momma.

I tried letting the hooligans free range this morning but chickened out. There are some gaps between the bottom of my fence and the ground that they could still fit through if they were motivated...either by being chased or just plain curiosity...and this is a curious bunch. I managed to herd them back in after about 15 minutes of glorious freedom. They were not pleased.

Well I decided I was being a baby and let them back out. Now my favorite one is missing. Couldn't be one of the stupid roos that I have to get rid of anyway. No. Had to be my favorite and one of only a couple hens I got out of my ameracauna hatch. Best looking one.

I am so angry right now. If I had just not decided to let them back out I would still have her. I looked all over my yard and peered into my neighbors...but if she was nearby I would hear her kicking up a major fuss being alone. She is gone gone gone. Free range for an hour, gone forever.
