Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Right now my girls are on Feather Fixer and free choice oyster shells. The pen looks like a huge pillow fight has occurred between Smoke and Penny.

I am just finishing up on 4 weeks of feather fixer. It is amazing!

I collected 8 eggs yesterday--much better than 0 form 30 hens.

How long does it usually take a bird to start laying after being broody? Midge and Maggie have not started laying yet and it has been 3 weeks or so since they stopped brooding. They may not lay this winter anymore to since they stopped at a time when they daylight is somewhat fleeting and that's alright I was just wondering. I have 4 laying right now and I am doing good if I get two. Lotta days it is just one. Today it was a jackpot and I got 3. Penny and Wilson are cranking them out almost every day but the 2 ameracauna ones are not as productive, as expected.

Big momma started laying again about 5 weeks after the chicks hatched.

I had read that it can be shorter for birds that do not have chicks but it is hard to say given the season. None of them are really hot on the lay right now which is OK I want them to save their strength for the cold ahead.

The Season and breed make big differences in getting back to laying. Some breeds jump right back into laying form molt too. This year the Pita Pintas barely stopped laying during molt. My OEs, both the Marans X EE and the Crele Penedesencas x Cream Legbars picked up after molting first. I am only getting blue, green and cream colored eggs currently. None of my dark egg layers are laying. The Partridge Penedesencas have not laid an egg in four weeks!

A week or two, especially this time of year. The lower number of daylight hours will slow them down.

I have chicken in the crockpot. I added the broccoli about an hour ago, and the aroma is killing me! The cheese and pasta will go in around three... If the chicken lasts that long!

DH will be home around five. Once he gets here, I will probably be too busy to get on here again for a few weeks. Oh, who am I kidding? I read while on the motorcycle. I will be keeping up for the next few days. I can't post on my phone (aren't you lucky?!). Anyone else unable to post on BYC the last few weeks using their phone?
