Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

yeah.... noticed that, my name is Ann... last name is Leather. for real. tough name to grow up with (pun intended, cuz... there is no way to avoid it...lol)

anyway, the Pie was a little effective, got 3 eggs today instead of just 2. both RIR's and Blu, little darlins'

gave them a fresh pumpkin today after a good sunny run in the sun.

having a rough time on the homefront... BH and I are spiffin'... I get so bummed when we can't get along. long distance relationships are so hard
Roger is available if you need company and somebody to cheer you up. I can mail her to you. I can't be responsible if she eats all of your pumpkins. And she is barred out of Wal Mart. Let me know

d'y'know... the official logo of the Postal System in France, is a chicken? it is... it's been modernized, but it's still a chicken.

historically, people would tuck confidential notes under a chicken wing, and entrust the (butchered) bird to a close servant or employee to deliver it to the home of the recipient, where the note would be retrieved by another trusted servant, and delivered... mostly love notes, but some clandestine business transactions as well...

and thanks for the offer OK... stick a book of stamps under her wing and send her on her way to the PO, I'm sure she can take care of the rest! She can boss everyone into hand delivering her all the way... wonder what the gang would think... poor Isis... even Peach is above her in the pecking order...

it's nice and quiet, heat's cranking up, made a huge beef stew for supper and for freezing, local pasture raised beef... scrumptious!

Gotta love a black panther. Saw one at an outdoor zoo in Panama city, (FL) sat down on a bench and watched him going round his pen, I wondered why he was so active in the middle of the hot day, then it dawned on me, he wanted to attack me. I left. I figured why torment. (A 1000lb cat with teeth longer than your fingers) They also had many monkeys...one would look at you, run into his house and slam the door shut...then he'd peek back out. If he saw you, he'd slam it shut again. If he didn't see you, he'd come back out, looking around till you stepped out from behind the tree....then you guessed it. Now he's really peeved cause you tricked him! He'd give a little scream then slam! Wolves, really neat lecture with them, they had one they led around to let you meet him. You weren't allowed to move. He stopped at me and licked my face. The trainer was surprised, he said they never do that, I should be honored. (I didn't tell him I'd just had a chuck burger with real bacon and cheese and that he probably wanted me to throw it up for him.) I gave a pretty good donation and had my picture taken ( they promised the donations went directly to the wolves) I told them to please buy him some fresh chuck, rare. Oh that picture brought back some memories. Feeding the giraffe the entire bag of food for the petting zoo...everybody else looked pretty fat. Their tongues are like sand paper...I wanted to donate my time if they'd let me curry him, he really needed it. Poor itchy guy. And the fat pony..so miserable, I stood there for an hour just petting him to take his mind off the misery of all that weight...then i saw the sign, don't bother the pony.....well, he didn't seem bothered, even after he knew I wasn't giving him any more treats. Seriously, this pony was so fat that a little excercize might kill him. I think the place took in animals like that, else they did what we did one summer to a cat. We had about fifty at one time, from litters people dropped off...they ate in the mudroom, so we'd just fill the bowl when it was empty. This cat would reach out and grab you as you walk by, to let you know the bowl was empty...we didn't notice how fat he was getting till my friend said that is the fattest cat I've ever seen...I looked twice, yup, he looks like a beach ball with legs. He got moved to be an inside cat and got attention instead. He was a great indoor cat. Hmmm, just noticed I never mentioned a chicken or an egg after all that.

I love watching animals too. Saw a black jaguar once, and you could see the darker spots in her black coat. Very cool looking. She was so fat though that I don't think there was any idea of eating me! When my DS#1 was born, I pushed him around the San Francisco zoo quite a lot (only about 15 mins from where we lived). One of the gorillas had a baby close to the same time and I would spend so much time watching her and how she cared for her little one. Very devoted mama. It was quite lovely to see. Saw her little boy grow and learn to walk and climb and play, and knew that I would get to experience that some day. To this day, I love watching gorillas.

Busy days. Have been helping out with the book fair this week at the elementary school. We did $5800 in sales today and my feet are tired. We pack it up on Friday and then I'll get to spend more time with my feathered babies. Guilt drove me to buy them some cracked corn and I gave them a few handfuls this morning. Must have made them happy because I got 6 eggs today!

jchny, good to hear that your Mom is improving, and while she is in the hospital, they do have some pretty powerful anti-emetics they could use to control her nausea, but if she's home, you might want to pick up a bottle of peppermint essential oil. a couple of drops on or under the tongue really helps ~ so does peppermint starlight candies, but they are so full of sugar, that I prefer to use the oil myself... I keep it handy for a couple of the treatments I undergo. the worst for nausea is enduring 8-9 cortisone injections in my skull monthly. it feels like my skin is being flayed and when the pain subsides, I'm always very nauseated. drip drip and I'm all set to drive the hour home.

for your flock, it hasn't been very long since the feed was corrected, hang in there, they will resume. I fed my little bantam, Peach the wrong food ~ when she first got here, I finished up the chick feed and finishing feed with the new birds, but then switched to layer feed, I didn't know she was so young. I think she was only 14 weeks old before she was on layer feed, and it was 5 weeks later that I found out that she was too young! I have been so concerned that I did organ damage, but she's continued to thrive so far... she's grown, gotten nice and fluffy, has lots of energy, but zero eggs, her hatchmates are laying... doesn't mean all that much, she's on her own schedule after all... but I hope I didn't break her. while her comb has stayed a light pink, I did notice it was slightly pinker yesterday.

They did give her different scripts today, and she has been home about a week. But the peppermint oil certainly helps.... thats a wonderful home remedy, isn't it! The cortisone injections must be horrible, i had them for a lower back/hip injury years ago. I cannot imagine in the skull.

it gives me tears thinking of it. You must be a toughie, i know how they feel.

I told the girls today I dont care if they ever laid another egg. I hand fed them a whole cup of mealies while we all chatted. Spike on one knee, Red on the chair arm, and Quasey my broody pearl guinea on the chair back lol. The other bitties were too busy fighting over 2 mealies...

Mean mommy went out and took the light down last nite hehe, i was so mad at myself i couldnt sleep. My lil Quasey decided the golf balls were dead, they were rolled out and on the coop floor this morning. had iced over waterers too, time to go to goodwill and get some cookie tins for water heaters! I am usually such a pack rat, i dont have a single metal one anywhere. I am so far behind lately ugh..

I plan on putting the light inside of cinder blocks, not touching the bedding or water. Is that okay? I saw someone use a ceramic planter too.
I looked at my pullet's combs today. They are looking red today.

I may be getting more eggs this week! I actually expect everyone to be laying by New Year's Eve. That is exactly six months. I can't believe it has been that long already!

I have seen that too, good idea! I have several blocks out in the woods. the one i saw they used a paver stone on top, then placed the waterers on it, looked like the perfect idea. (think it was on BYC)
Wohoo!! i bet you will be getting some eggs pretty quick, anyone squatting yet?
