Should I COOK her? Need your thoughts.......

What happens when you pet her?
Those of mine that are laying, or about to, squat down and point thier wings up, those that are not, run away when i touch them.
So if she squats down, she is close.
I have one hen, who is always in the box, but still is very pink and not at all red on top. She still runs if I try to touch her.

Boy I dont know. By the look of that comb and wattles, I GOT to say she is laying somewhere some how. Here they got to produce or its the BBQ. But she sure looks like she is laying! Sure she is not eating em or ???

I also have never seen a hen go in nests regularly if they were not laying. When she come out can you grab her and feel her vent area? Are they coming out or is she retaining them???

KC, she does do the "squat"...for weeks even months now! It's the strangest thing that she goes through all th motions of laying like the other hens but in the END...hind END

, she doesn't lay! I have had her since she was 2 weeks old and got all the same food as the rest of them. Her sister RIR has been laying just fine since 5 months old.

Antlers, no she is not eating the eggs and I haven't felt her vent yet. What am I feeling for?

At 8 months old, something has to give soon. Is it possible she will never lay an egg? Is there such a thing as a hen that doesn't lay eggs? Why did I have to get the STRANGE ONE? LOL!

My RIR lays eggs everyday for 9 days then takes a day off and starts up again. I would give her another month. If she comes through it will be worth it.

She might need a rooster to get her started.

Sure looks like a hen to me and a nice one,too. If she is getting interested in the nest, I think she is close. You can tell a layer from a non-lyer by looking at the vent. It will be more round shaped and not so tight if she is laying. I bet when she does start laying,she will give you big beautiful eggs from the beginning. You might feed her black oil sunflower seeds. It helps to lubricate things a bit.

Thanks! She did it again today! Goes in the nest, sits for awhile, and then gets up and NO EGG! She even does the BAWK BA BAWK noise when she leaves the nest...like she laid one!

Any bets on when this hen will lay?...LOL! 8 1/2 months is pretty old now....my others are laying just perfect!

Are you sure she isn't then going BACK to the nest later on and actually laying? At least some days? My young sussexes seem to do that a fair amount -- like 'false alarms'. "The baby's coming, the baby's coming, let's go to the hospital! ...oh no, wait, maybe not... NOW the baby's coming, let's go! ...uh, maybe not yet..."
