Hi,

So, I decided to let my broody marans hen, Minnie Mae, have 6 eggs yesterday. She has two of her own, two from my Whiting True Green (a red colored single combed olive egger) and two from my sicilian buttercup. Dad is a handsome bielefelder.

I know I'm counting my chickens here, (Not sure how serious Mae is about it, as she switched nests at least once today), but has anyone hatched any of these crosses, and what did they look like?

Bielefelder x Black Copper Marans
Bielefelder x Whiting true green (or any red bird really)
Bielefelder x Sicilian Buttercup

:D :D :D

So, the first clutch of eggs failed, but she hatched one chick from another egg we failed to collect. Based on the shell color, it was probably from my Whiting "Fake" Green (A Whiting True Green who lays light brown eggs) She is a red hen, and the chick has reddish down. Only possible dad still the Bielefelder.

Replying to my own old thread here in case anyone else is looking for pictures of mixes. These are two chicks hatched later in 2021 from black copper marans eggs and the same bielefelder rooster. (Their hatch mom is a bielefelder too, but she isn't the biological mom.) I got a pullet and a cockerel, who had different looking barring at 5-6 weeks. I still have the hen, Lena, and she lays pretty brown eggs with a coppery tint that are darker than most brown layers but way lighter than marans eggs.

Biel x Jersey Giants and/or Black Australorp. I need to go out tomorrow and collect the shells to verify precisely what I gave her. I thought I gave her one egg from each hen except the Biel (a total of 4) but all the chicks look about the same.

If I did one of each, there's a Mottled Java cross in there as well.

All four chicks are black, with a white underbelly and a distinct white spot on top of the head. The egg shells were crushed.

These beautiful boys are 18 weeks old, a Biel x Dominique cross. Of the 5, 4 have the rose comb.
