Show me your poop boards!

I have only one issue with our poop boards, occasionally a chicken or two will roost on the poop board instead of their roosting perches. I have taken a length of yellow poly rope and stretched it across the middle of the boards and about 3" high to try and discourage them from roosting there. For the most part this seems to work. Bird brains, grrrrr.

That must make them hard to clean?

Nothing wrong with them sleeping on the boards, I have a few that always do.
If boards are cleaned daily it's not really an issue.
I found this winter after a few days I didn't clean, they got on the roosts to avoid the mess on the board.

We DO clean the poop boards daily but the issue is the girls getting pooped on from the chickens ABOVE them. Last night, for example, I looked at their security camera(yes, we have several cameras to keep track of them) and saw that 2 girls were on one of the poop boards. Since this was pretty early in the evening I went out to the coop and gently moved those 2 girls around a bit and then left. I did notice that poor Tilly had been pooped on!!! Later checked the cameras and was glad to see that they had relocated to their normal positions. BB may have to give Tilly a partial spa treatment to bring her back to show girl condition!!

Eh...I don't worry about that.
Have never seen any real mess, maybe just a spot or two.

I cannot believe we have over 20 pages of poop catching. I started this thread just to get some examples of poop boards for my own build. Now my board had been in place for a few months and works great, yet this thread is still going. I am glad to see others have been able to benefit too. Now I am building boards for my quail cages. They are much different and more of a tray than the litter box type of board I built under my chicken roosts. Let's hope they work as well though.

The other poop board thread went for 182 pages over 6 years!

My poop board is 24" deep x 12' wide, it runs along the back wall of my coop. I keep 1/4 - 1/2 inch of PDZ in there all the time. I scoop poop every morning and add it to my compost pile. The roost board is in the center and raised up about 7 inches. I wanted the roost low, so all the poop stays on the board. I lift the roost up on boards mounted to the coop wall when I scoop so it's out of my way.

My poop scooping tools. I use the scraper to pull poop into the litter scoop and also scrape stuff down. I use the wire office basket once a week to sift all the smaller pieces out of the PDZ. The white board has small eye hooks screwed into the bottom, I use that to level out the PDZ after I scoop.

I like your setup and it’s very similar to mine. I noticed you have litter on the floor - do you keep it there year round? I have a thick layer of pine shavings on the floor over the winter to add some insulation, but usually clear it out in the spring. I was considering leaving a layer to cushion the jump off the roosts in the morning.

Picking up a box is easier and faster for me...instead of scooping through something to dig poop out.

No I don't but I don't see why you couldn't.

My coop is new so it is very clean!
