Things to keep in mind while building pens for quail....

Stacking one pen on top of another means you emptying poop pans...or the bottom cage is a really bad neighborhood...

Cages under 2.5' off the ground require bending over to service and are closer to visiting animals...

Cages deeper than your arm is long , for some reason is where you will end up putting the really spooky birds. This requires a dip net to catch. Cleaning is a issue too.

Cages that are built in the widths of wire to be used or 1\\2=much less waste. As in a roll of 1\\2"x1" wire is 30"x 10'. make cages 30"x 5' or 30"x 2'. less wire cutting ,less wire wasted...

haha!! Thanks for the pointers. Is there ever a smell issue with letting the poop just drop to the grass? I'm not opposed to the doubledecker with trays - but the ground would be far easier!!

If you live in an urban setting, or on close lots, you may not want to let things just drop to the grass. Could cause future complications. If you are in a rural setting, and the pens are far from your house, then it is less of an issue.

Personally, I'd want to have an easy way to "clean up" the mess and recycle it into compost.

I live in a very rural area. I have a rake and a backhoe to move it all when needed. Everything does end up too close to my house thou. Im lazy and tend to like shorter trips if possible...
