Show me... your special needs chick/chicken

I'm not sure where Hubbard is though it does sound familiar. I left Ohio when I was 15 and moved to California, but I still call Ohio home. You can't really take the Ohio out of a girl

With my husband's work we only get to travel, not move, which I guess is a good thing in some respects. We lived in Italy 4 summers ago on an extended business trip and traveled through various countries, including Germany. Very beautiful country and one of my kid's favorites.

I am so inspired by every one of these stories, and I think that God blesses us with these special friends, just as some familys are blessed with the gift of a special needs child. It is a hard time, sometimes, but can also be a joyous one. God bless you all, and your chickens!

Well I have a special needs chick that is just over 1 week old. Thankfully he/she seems to actually be getting better. I was calling all my meesed up chicks Frankenchicks but had to name them-Frankie(or Frank) was hatched with extremly curled toes(all of them), a hunchback/curved spine, and one eye with issues. I gave her vitamins every day, and put a "boot" on her feet. After one week, she is straightening out and now only has one curled toe. Her eye is open now-though not sure if she has vision issues with it or not. Here are a couple pics of her and her hunckback-kind hard to see with the feathers, but it was pretty bad!

I had had chick with leg issues as well. But i had to cull, even with splints and boots and all the bells and whistles it would fall or toppe over. this is the main reason why dumdum chicken is still alive. My hubby wouldnt kill him and i couldnt either, even with her being totally unable to lift her own head. good luck with everyones special chicks, ducks.......

Thanks connie

I feel really grateful that this chick's toes were able to straighten out. I haven't had to deal with leg issues yet, but I know those can be much harder to fix.

You see? It is people like all of you that the animals thank, specifically the special needs babies you have and had! On behalf of all the special needs animals, Thank You!

I have a little RIR that is 7 weeks old. Since day one she has been a little off. She walks up to a wall or your leg and look up and shake her head up and down. She never stands up and struts, but she flaps and plays with the rest of the group! There is no physical difference. She looks normal, but acts like there is something phsycological (sp?) going on. She eats, drinks and lives a happy life, she is very special to me and she will always be my special baby! My daughter always says.....Mommy, Little Red isn't the brightest lightbulb, but I like hers a lot!! my daughter is 4.

I don't really think of it as doing anything special. I just do what is right. I have a whole house full of special needs animals. I seem to like them better than "normal" ones, lol.
