Lmljsl, with your expertise I'm sure havoc has something he could cross on his yard to produce something close to that. Yes?
I am not too familiar with that pattern but believe it comes out of the reds. I do not know how you would "make" it intentionally. Keeping with the blue theme, I really like the blue brassy back pattern.

I believe it was a cross from an Albany and a whitehackle but not sure so don't hold me to it.
Either way I don't wanna make em. I would like an older strain.
Same as joe redmonds. Anybody can cross a green legged grey and a red quill to get the look. Not the same though.
Mine have dark legs so they ain't the real deal so they shall stay here.

The North Britain whitehackle I think was in the mix
yep that's what I meant. Ain't too many with them
Let me rephrase that. Ain't too many with birds that look like north Britain whitehackles

I had to double check. So the Brassy Back pattern comes from Reds with the addition of recessive black. In genetic terms Brassy Back is a melanised wild type/red pattern. So start with a Red and find a black strain that is carry recessive black, it will be hit and miss for the crosses, but something to do in your spare time...

If you want to then make Blue Brassy Backs, then cross with one of SDM blue splashes!

On the other forum they said both sides have to have the recessive gene. They molt out white and then back to brassy backed in year 2-3. Interesting.

Yes, it would take a little back crossing and searching to get back to the homozygous recessive black. Perhaps easier to buy a pair?
