Gotcha, most people around me use cords and barrels few use teepees and usually when u do see teepees it's acres of teepees not just a few I guess that many barrels could get expensive. Thanks for clarifying your style

I am still using the pens once birds adult, sadly. Currently my setup does look like havoc's but not nearly as scenic. I am working towards the tie-cord approach although the predator-free zone must be expanded substantially first. The rearing component is offset from penned bird area. Rearing area has pens as well but they are used largely at night as indicated in previous post, otherwise the young birds and their attending broodies are free-range in areas where most of their nutrition comes from foraging. It is that latter part that chews up the acreage. My penned area barely covers 1/2 acre so not that big, although I move that area around a lot to keep pens on fresh ground. Imagine havoc's setup where he can periodically move every forward about 20 feet every few days. This would include pens and fences which I do.

Maybe if someone's thinking about getting into games and monitoring this thread they can seethe different types of management practices and the amount of responsibility involved and may be a lil more prepared in which they may not have been otherwise.

The labor is good for my health and helps get the ground in shape for other uses in including planting of fruiting plants.

That is a stag to the left in the video correct? Bout how old is he and the white one?

The little Grey stag is young still about 4 1/2 months ... The White one is a little older about 7 months. The White one isnt fighting any other stags yet which is why he is out. Here is is with some other stags. They all grew up free ranging together so they have an established pecking order... but that will change very soon..

That is usually a form of play. Pullets do similar although frequency and duration of events less. Most of time but not always the bouts are between same sexed individuals within the same brood / harem. When involving members of other groups their are some sounds that go with it indicating it is not play..

I will post a video shortly where it is not play and scraps only between males. Problem shown manifests for me when no cock present to suppress it. How suppression works I am not clear on. Examples of this very different from both types of interactions listed above. This latter behavior is very much a function of the genetics making games unique and if my understanding of orientals is accurate, then they they are prone to do so even on the female side. Prairiechiken may need to be consulted about that..

Here is one of my two videos showing a battle royal among chicks that are about 5 weeks old which is the time hen usually stops clucking. Hens that cluck longer delay onset. This gets to be a real headache when multiple broods being weaned while I am at work. To stop all have to do is have a cock close by but broods reared as I do can go a couple hundred yards from penned cocks where the scraps break out. They get so sore they cannot fly up to the roost.

At the end dog gets flogged for being nosey. The dog normally has ability to get birds not to go after him but scraping chicks gets him more involved, like it does foxes and the like. Same dog can break up fights between older stags even though I am unable to do so.
