I saw it done with a potato blood everywhere

Was with a bantam, they stabbed the potato and twisted

Makes me queasy thinking about it

You know the more I think about it was a long time ago I think the whole spur snapped off

Any of you guys try twisting the husk of the spur off completely. There's a how to on ultimate fowl I think I remember seeing years ago. Just twist with pliers. I'm gonna try it
I did it on a dead rooster and it worked great (but it looked like it would be painful if he was alive). Soft/raw spur underneath.

Yes, if they are long enough you can twist them right off with your hands. If they are shorter, you may need a pliers to get a grip. I haven't done any in years, but when I was a kid, I seem to remember them bleeding a little, but not too bad. There is a 3/8'' or so soft base underneath. Just make sure to twist them off and not break them off. I can see where that would get real bloody!
