That's a strange thing that hens will do that to their own chicks. Busted beaks, pecked out eyes. Ridiculous. One hen short and also running low on .22's.

I can only remember having hens do this when a chick hatches really early. She'll kill it and wait for the other eggs to hatch.

I'd hate to blame just the hen for something like that, it may be environmental issues or stress.

That egg of hers I took and put under a heat lamp hatched just fine and the chick is healthy. She was a nut and had to go. All the other hens/pullets sitting on eggs hatched them just fine and is caring for them. Majority rules. Can't breed good birds without culling, it's impossible. Anyone can raise them.

you hatched her chicks tho.... haha. I thought the purpose of culling was to prevent breeding them.
