When the wind starts blowing around here I get kinda paranoid. I've had some crazy straight line winds the past few years. Flipping pens and ruining my day. You have any issues?
Yep, we have too. I don't mind the rain so much, but when the wind starts blowing it can do some serious damage!

I was fortunate havoc. Tree limb fell a couple feet from one of my pens would have smashed it flat..... thanks sdm111 ... I was paranoid the whole time during the storm I remember you saying the cocks dont care if its raining or not battle is on once the pens are flipped.

X2 alroy. Great to see kids involved!

Would anyone care to share advice on how to cull/select young birds? I understand the obvious things, such as obvious health issues, but I have a difficult time sorting through younger chicks/juveniles. I am just not really confident I will pick the best birds when they look young and healthy. The problem is there just isn't enough room to keep them all. Thanks!

Natural selection.. which ever ones the dogs dont eat :) haha jk

I like to pick the larger/heavier ones.

Also, when the stags start play fighting, see who runs and see who stays.

For the pullets I look for the ones that get to the food first. Throw down some treats and see which ones are hot on it.

I also do a bucket test for intelligence... put feed in a bucket so the pullets can see it, but cannot reach the scratch. The smart hens will jump into the bucket, the rest will keep walking in circles around it.
