Toppies I have had differed only in the feathering on the head. You could discern homozygous and heterozygous individuals based on appearance. Neither exhibited a soft spot in the dome of skull.
Thanks as I was wondering seeing as how sensitive some of the top knot breeds are to a single peck, I noticed in the pictures I have seen the feathering on the head is less pronounced, is it ever a problem that requires trimming like in some more ornamental breeds?

I think u mean toppy lol. Sorry I don't know nuttin about the past few posts. I believe animals don't mate with other types of animals for a reason and humans should not try to do that. That's why imo the offspring will be sterile or die
I agree in nature the cross would be rare, it has occurred that way... but so rare. And I only looked it up after seeing images and going "no way" & that is when I figured it would be hard to get long term viability just from my poking around on the subject... now crossing to Junglefowl that appears to have happened already and help create the modern chicken but you got to research that heavy so you know how to do it right and also care is a big issue... no point in breeding a bunch of beautiful birds only to watch them all die because you fed them wrong or did not keep them warm enough.

I really liked my Vietnamese Junglefowl hen I had years ago and I hope to replace that.

Out of everything thats penned up I've only lost 2 and the pullets running loose with biddies have lost about 50%. I turned some pens out a couple weeks ago and they're doing good. There's another big group of them up the hill. A couple of these are older pullets.

I have been lucky so far but I prop a few dome pens up on cinder blocks in the evening and they just about all go to bed. Then my wife just lets them out in the morning. Are you just letting them run free 24/7. I may start cause it does get to be a pain after awhile.
You have a nice mix there. How old are your oldest birds running loose?

Yes sir, they're free to go anywhere. I did have to put my fence on a timer so I wouldn't kill half of them. I have one hen and two pullets that hatched their eggs good but didn't do a good job of raising their biddies or they abandoned them to early.

Yeah I have one pullet that didn't do so good at first but has been good since with 3 chicks.
Think I'm gonna pen what I'm keeping soon and just let the rest run the yard full time til the stags start causing problems. What kills ya is all the different ages. Some penned, some not. I have a few hens with chicks that I left penned but the chicks can get out. These few hens are just too much of a problem to let loose. Pen fighting machines. Lol

this hen is still going strong with her chicks. She follows me all over the yard chicks in tow. She even grabs my pant leg.
