Unfortunately the reason she is on her 4th batch is because two of her clutches were decimated at early age... (mostly by other mother hens.) She was penned and her chicks are vulnerable outside the pen.
That's too bad, at least she is persistent...

I will make pictures this evening. Heat will be an issue. Hens did use the barrels for incubation even when temperatures were above 100. Chicks seem to handle feat well.

Got a low that's supposed to move over for the next few days broke down and cut up a tarp for a few roofs. Betcha from the sky it looks like I have a giant checker board

i just replaced about 15. Real soon I'm gonna switch to rolled roofing I think. Even though I've only seen it in 3 ft widths. So the pens won't be completely covered but they will last a lot longer.

I assume he is not having the broodies covered by cock. When they go broody he then replaces their eggs with hatching eggs from breeder pens?

You can pick up the nest box or bucket and set it inside the barrel, or when catching up new stags and pullets, use them as holding pens. I don't use them, I see the advantage of housing them in less area, I want mine on the ground.
