Walked out on the deck and looked down, saw a cat eating something. I thought it was a chick. Started to go get the .22 figured ha you finally messed up and I can get rid of you b*stards. Nope it was a flying squirrel. How they managed that who knows.
Cats are downright killers, haven't touched a chick yet. I'm actually amazed.
Thursday evening I checked the birds when I got home and 2 insulators were pulled off the fence posts and wire all loose. I think one of the feral cats hit it too bad it didn't get tangled up

Today I will be taken my two kids (one if 4-yrs and other 3-yrs) to Jacobs Cave animal swap. In past I have seen guys peddling games. This time I am going with $40 with intent of getting one. Quarantine pen is already setup.
you're the most outspoken against peddling swap buys. Why not buy out the gamecock or something you'll know what u getting I'll send u a copy

why the slow maturing?

I do not really know other than it is genetic. When they are raised side by side with other games mine the frame on very well but take a lot longer come into afult feather and their courage. They are game when they do get into scraps even as chicks like the one inside cage which can lead to multiple losses quick but they do not come into the take on anything mode until a good 8 months or more when feathers fully in..

A very big part of this will be for the conversation. I have brought in only one game from the outside in the last decade. It is time to establish a little connectivity with others in the state. There are times I also see gold in a bird that is otherwise a blinker or has some other injury related problem. A big problem is I have no color on the yard. Having Hatch-colored birds as the pretty ones does not impress most.

gotcha we'll get to see what u come up with. Are u looking for a different color breed and a red to infuse yours with

I have no idea what I am looking for. Getting something with both gray and black genes might give me some cool genetic markers to work with. At some point I want to set up a line of broodies that have a color marker in down allowing me to see at a glance when I mess up allowing a non-target egg to be hatched. Keeping focus on that goal will be tough.

Im lil opposite on that Centra i have some color but ,still i only see real Game as Hatch type ive always been lil shy of the Flashy fowl ,i know im not right its just a mental thing ,Doms ,lil highstrung are beautiful but game ??? GO fOr it buy something with color and if it doesnt work out with that breeding ,,you can always eat chickens.

400

There are still working games in Missouri which is what I hope to pulling from. Most of those have at least some color. The base Hatch-colored birds are actually hard to come by here. Many breeders also target a market that likely figures color very high even though refuting the concept.

I do not even have birds that leg color other than willow / green.
