As tails fill out I do not think they will look so black as secondaries will be lighter. To my eyes they look very blanched wheaton. A little red bleeds through on both but camera did not pick it up well. Looking closer at them I can see the muff showing a little. They are still striking sight.
you can't judge a chicken when they in a middle of a molt. So these are for Broody only? And if I understand right any toppy in a cross will show? That's what I'm gathering. So right now the tail feathers they have are the second or third row from bottom of black feathers?

Morning SDM!

I typically keep feed in front of my birds at all times, mainly for my convenience and schedule. They run a little on the fat side, but I rotate pens out for free ranging and treats for taming them down. I am curious, do most feed a given amount each day? What are the benefits?

good morning, mine get fed once at approx 4:40pm everyday right at 3.4-3.6 ounces a day. (Adults) and they heavy and solid. From butchering I noticed mine sometimes have a lil fat like a strip on their back but that's all usually they ready to see me the next day. I want them moving/scratching before I get home

If they on starter they get pretty much all they can eat

Everything that is off starter gets pellets I don't do fancyfeed

I do fast them once every couple weeks or so

Benefits to me are most of the time no waste (rodents) keeps them moving before I get home (not just sitting there full), clear crop, less cost due to my climate (humidity) I have to make sure feed does not sit on the ground it molds quickky

3.5oz is roughly a tuna can full (pellets)

To be used to set a broody line only. Either they can be bred to one of my cocks that already throws light chicks or I will get a wheaton back Jim Almond Toppy stag to breed these pullets to and get a dozen of so wheaton pullets for next year to use as broodys.

I think the tail will look like that of you wheaton hen. The remaining fight feather / retrices are the last juvenile set and the second from the bottom. Coloration should be same as in adult. Even though base color pattern of mine is also wheaton, the overriding white will give an off-white coloration where your bird transitions to the very light red-brown typical of wheatons.

In my experience toppy is also incompletely dominant. That is a variant I have played around with a lot in my games.

I think they gonna be cool looking in a couple months. Like a ghost coloring

Thanks for the great info. Males and females get the same amount?

yep and if there's more than one bird in a pen its just one scoop per number of birds in pen. The males will sit back till the females get a few mouthfulls then they will step up.

Everybody has their own way and reasons what's good for one may not be for another
