Looks like we are going to do a prescribed burn on part of the cockyard today. Area to be burned connects to barn area. WIll allow planting of native species that ultimately will provide more diverse habitat. It will be the start of expanding the poultry area a lot but I must keep birds while plants come up.
did your controlled burn?

We are finishing up initial stage of prescribed burn. Area treat just under 1/10 acre.

My daughter in red was running about in that stuff barefoot. Son (larger boy) was all about water management while other boy was into spraying down fire lanes even after fire past.

My friend had an assortment of locally collected native plant seed. Kids did most of planting. This area will be left alone in terms of chicken pens.

Hole operation got dicey owing to change in wind causing us to stop after doing only one section.

Just finished delousing all penned birds. Almost 3 hours non stop. Only one got out on me. A few pecks, a few kicks and one squawked so bad I thought about culling him. I'll handle him some more but if he keeps that sh*t up he's gone. Started right at 5 am. The squawking of his candy *ss woke my wife up and she came out to see what was killing the birds lol.

That's a lot of delousing. I don't care for those really bad squawkers. It seems like it is hard to get over that.

ha that's funny, its just over 80 here I guess were not gonna have a winter this year. Did some prepping of breeding pens gonna put 3 pullets in a pen tonight and introduce a male tomorrow hopefully it goes well. I was thinking I've actually done well this year on introducing so far it's 3 for 3 but one really doesn't count it was a cock that has a record of taking good care of his lady friends
Sounds like you are doing well. I need to start moving some around if this mild weather keeps up.
