I had that racing pigeon. I let it go after a few days and I found the owner through the leg bands. The pigeon never went home. The guy supposedly paid a few hundred dollars for it originally. So just like chickens some homing pigeons ain't worth the feed.
I wanted to keep it! Lol it wouldn't have been right and I didn't think it was wise to start off with a pigeon that couldn't find it's way home. Lol

haha bad blood to start with...

I was just interested in New World Pigeons because they are native to Americas and it would be cool to breed something that is similar to the extinct Passenger Pigeon.

All part of my "making animals feral again" obsession.

i bet you would do more harm than good. They have problems with them getting trichomoniasis. Breeding them and potentially getting sick and mingling with native populations wouldn't be good for em. Besides they only raise one squab a year. Wouldn't be doing a whole lot of breeding.
By the way I looked this up because I wasn't sure what a band tailed pigeon was and I've never heard of trichomoniasis before 5 minutes ago.

I do like pigeons though. Only good part of working in the city. I would t mind someday racing them but that's a very very expensive hobby. Honestly I can't afford to do it.

are white streaks down the tail feathers a desirable trait? looks like feral chickens ive seen living in hawaii and georgia that are mixed breed
