i bet you would do more harm than good. They have problems with them getting trichomoniasis. Breeding them and potentially getting sick and mingling with native populations wouldn't be good for em. Besides they only raise one squab a year. Wouldn't be doing a whole lot of breeding.

Have you had them before or is this just knowledge you picked up?

I've only wikipedia the family/genus... and was looking on craigslist but nobody has anything.

I was trying to see if I could pair up different but related breeds of New World pigeon to try and recreate something like the passenger pigeon. Kind of like the Tauros Project they are doing to recreate the Aurochs in Europe.. .

are white streaks down the tail feathers a desirable trait? looks like feral chickens ive seen living in hawaii and georgia that are mixed breed

Just a trait... usually assoicated wtih Yellow Leg breeds like Kelso, Sweater, etc

lol I edited my post before you responded. Just looked them up. Ha. I do like birds of all kinds though. I've got tons of different bird books. I try to identify them while I'm hunting. Note: not just bird watching

I think flock size at release may need to be much larger than typically realized with restoration efforts. The tight flocking with a small flock size would make so bird eating hawks and owls would decimate breeding groups every time they settled down to nest. Larger groups would overwhelm the ability of a local raptor population to consume them. Local raptors would then enjoy a brief bounty by not be a significant impactor on a given breeding colony.
