Old English have been bred to a "standard" whereas American gamecocks have been bred to fight effectively and to not quit or give up. Breeding true is secondary to "gameness".

Game bird = quail, pheasant, grouse
There are too many to list but crossing them with ornamental chickens won't get it done.
To me it's a slap in the face to all the breeders that came before us that have made the birds what they are today to just go crossing them on layers. There are so many other "pretty" chickens to play around with. I always wonder what the fascination is with ruining gamefowl.

In my case I bred them to layers by acciendent... and in my case I am improving layers to be more like games, just as an experiment.

Like you guys told me before, many of the colors, layer breeds and ornamentals came from gamefowl origianlly.

Adding layer blood to games and calling it game is wrong and I agree that it is nonsense. You arent improving the games, because they are the best already hahaha

just so you know it wasnt me who did the crossing;P if i could id go over seas and get pure red jungle fowl to me as a conservationist this breed is a "slap in the face" so i understand where youre coming from if it were my choice i would never have soiled the pure genetics of red jungle fowl with domestic chicken blood

Layers are bred for a purpose, being game ain't it. You won't live long enough to bring a RIR up to speed. Faulty experiment from the get go but do what you please.

Well this ain't bill and teds excellent adventure so chances are slim that's gonna happen. You could always try though.

I don't see how you did it by accident. I have layers and gamefowl. Every stag I've had running the yard bred the layers but I didn't hatch any of them. They were just having fun with the chubby ol ladies.
