Get some of them DP coon traps. Easy to set and bait. Thin their *sses out. I've caught somewhere around 25 or so since fall. Killed 2 foxes with one more on the loose. I tell ya it never ends.
At least the foxes take the birds. The raccoons eat about 15% and leave the rest lay. Wasteful critters.

Thanks! It's not that hard to learn, just takes patience. I learned before YouTube was popular now you can watch along and learn. Sorry to hear about your brother. I am very careful now about my hands just for that reason. Even cuts on my fingers and rough hands will screw up the thread and different materials. Main reason I don't ride a motorcycle anymore. I'm afraid of wrecking my hands.

Luckily for him he was wearing safety gear, full set of leathers, helmet and face shield... coulda been much worse... he did get most of his mobility back, but fine motor control is shot...

Eh, youtube is ok, but there's nothing like learning from another, passing down technique and flair... sad that apprenticeships in anything is rare anymore...

Possums here are horrendous... coon's harder to catch, but possums do more damage per strike... no joke... all are prosecuted with extreme prejudice... relocate my @$$...

I try to prevent instead of kill...

For example... we got ants last year pretty bad... instead of spraying Raid endlessly, I just took away what they were after (moisture), and provided water dish outside along their path and it worked.

Raccoons and possums love dog food, you probably spend a lot less energy throwing out some dog food (away from chicken yard), instead of trapping and killing. Worth a try in my opinion. If that fails after could always go back to plan A (murder lol).

IPM involves keeping options open. I am pretty sure Flypen already invests in fences and the like to repel. Once you get occasional critter getting past low impact control measures, then it is OK to do a little killing. Killing simply need not be first approach.

My dogs are feet away from my chickens and if need be I let two of my Pitbulls loose to chase after any Intruders and scare them away for good. I have had one raccoon visit in the past year and it wasn't even after the chickens. Foxes have quit coming around and I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a opossum on my property or a coyote. Unfortunately rabbits are getting out of hand since I scared predators away.. so many dang rabbits

You do not know rabbit until you see the plague I have going on. If their numbers do not get knocked back soon they will be killing back all plants.
