I have a couple reasons, mainly I just like the way my hens look flying and I would like to produce more similar hens to keep around. second to help with predation, I don't have a predator problem but better safe than sorry..

I do have access to mug cross stags and I thought I would just try that

The color type not important. Mugs or what we had like them fly OK. Flying ability is not as important as knowing when to fly and having a safe retreat accessible by flying. Flying only good against canids. Bobcats do not give you a chance to even take off.

The look is cool to be sure. I used to walk groups by sort of herding them as far as I could from barn then flush them like quail. Flying back several hundred feet to barn was easy. Birds living and roosting in fence rows really easy to flush.

I started once but couldn't afford to go to Grand Cayman for our final dive. Putting some serious thought into it again. I was at the dive shop getting information when I found havocs xmas presents a few pages back. Lol seriously I've wanted to forever

Unbelievable. After all the work on the mower yesterday my wife runs it outta gas. Can't get it started. Battery is dead. Can't make it up. I have spent entirely too much time on this stupid mower.
I would think mugs wouldn't be able to fly as well since most mugs are far heavier than other games.

Plenty of wild edibles around the edges of the yard for the chickens and the deer.

The current mugs I see in Missouri I agree with you on fully. They are high stationed and heavy boned. Old type mugs are lower stations and weighed in the low 5's.
