Gotcha. I used to use the same type stakes. Rebar with welded washer and nut at top. I switched to all cable and chain stakes. Easier to haul around. Mainly though I use double looped air craft cable extensions to loop around tree, shrubs etc. It gets old digging up them chain stakes.Trap not currently baited. Bolt and washer attached to trap by cable where the bolt and washer are about 16" under ground. I have to have a tool to pull them out, a raccoon cannot do such. Pens and pen parts moved when trapping their. Active traps are out by hotwire perimeter. Raccoons not getting past hotwire.
If I am not quick getting out in morning when raccoon trapped, then dog gets it. Even when dog yanks coon out of leg hold the traps remain anchored.
I'm not sure if you have used snares before but if you don't want to kill it keep the cable size 5/64 -3/32. I will say the best fox snare however is 1/16 cable 1x19 twist. The 5/64 -3/32 is better in 7x7 twist.I felt old just doing two the other day. Buggered up my back. I really like have multiple trap options. Looking forward to using a non-lethal snare to go after a fox that sometimes slips through front yard.
Missouri Department of Conservation has one recommended I want to try. Fox will likely be killed anyway. Otherwise sets will be active only while I am home.To make a snare non lethal you have a bunch of different options from (bad) breakaway devices or relaxing locks. However for any of them to properly work the animal must not get tangled up.
It had been caught in deer netting twice before. Each time I took snake back to house and worked for a good 10 minutes to get snake out. Snake then went back to barn on its own. The deer netting catches snakes very well. Excellent way to get water snakes out of a pond. Only problem is it is size selective. Why is his (snakes) back like that.
