Best $10 rooster.. Naming him Don after the guy who I purchased him from.
He is the only one I have that doesn't try to fight other roosters through the cage/fences... So he is now my free range rooster. He treats the hens and chicks good too.

cause he ain't game obviously
I see why you would say that, but I don't think that is the case.

Just because he doesn't hit the fence doesn't mean he isn't game. He seems more concerned with mating hens and patrolling the yard right now. He spends most of his time on the other side of the yard with the hens, away from my rooster pens. From what I have seen he wont back down.

I have had a few roosters in the past that wouldn't kick the fence... they were good roosters. My Fabio was an expert at taunting other roosters to kick, but would rarely (if ever) kick back at the fence. Fabio also waited over a year before any attempt to usurp his father. I think some have more brains than others.

Quick background... I got him from a guy who doesn't want to own games, which is why the guy was practically giving him (and his brother) away.

hay i paid 20$ for this guy because he got in a big fight with his brother skinned up head now he looks real good plus he is hennie

Every gamefowl I have will kick the pen. Some much much more than others. I ain't saying he's not a good rooster but at 11 months In my opinion he should be interested in challenging any other roosters nearby. It makes it a whole lot easier if they wouldn't kick the pen but it just shows the only thing on their mind is getting at that other rooster no matter what. After all what are you looking for in a gamefowl? I have a barred rock hen that will pen fight a little. Lol so if I were you I would consider not breeding that bird and calling the offspring gamefowl.
Just curious why did the guy have a stag if he didn't want to own gamefowl?

Not wanting to argue but everything you seem to like in roosters you can find in just about every breed of bird except gamefowl.

Yeah...The guy I got them from moved into a house that had free range games. They bred and had two stags, that he sold to me... He mainly keeps RIR.

I like games, but I also like convenience. Having a free range rooster is nice for various reasons. Most of my games wont free range well, because of the kicking issue. If I can find a smart rooster that is game, but at the same time not an idiot, I have one up on some other breeder who doesn't have that...

The same could be said for manfighters.... Maybe at one point, some lala man like me decided that he was going to breed roosters that didn't fight people... His friends might have told him, "If a rooster doesn't fight a man then its not game"... hypothetically he did it anyways, and now its common practice to cull manfighters.

I am breeding for what I want and I don't sell many chickens. I usually give them away mostly to people I trust.

I have never had a problem with runners. I have never seen any of my cocks back down.... which is way different than haphazardly instigating a kicking match through a fence.

And to be honest he initially did fight through the fence. But I let the two exercise their sport for a minute, and afterwards he had no interest in going back. He was tired and got it out of his system.
