Dang good looking fowl though.
If you live in the south, I would build and keep my pens/chickens under shade trees.
You can easily put up 4ft X 8ft pens (8ft tall)with 2x4's and used or new metal roofing(in the south often called tin) around bottom sides (usual width of 3ft) making metal around bottom 3ft high, preventing predators from seeing and harassing your birds. I enclose 3ft of one end where roost and leave rest of pen open area covered with welded or poultry wire. I do put metal over feed & water area at the front door.
I have split the 2x4's for building pens, no need to build them like Ft Knox. I put nothing into the ground, I do overlap the metal on bottom framing by couple inches it will press into the ground(for security).
These pens can be made in panels of(Sides, top, back and front-entrance and easily put together. I also use the cheap privacy treated fence boards($1.39 each) for things like making front doors and a place for water placement off ground and room for at least two birds near the door for easy access watering and when needed feed in cups(i usually throw feed into the straw, hay or leaves(always keep straw or hay in pens for healthy birds are working birds.
You will never regret making these pens that can be used for brood pens, fly pens, holding and grow pens. Allways keep straw in them also horse manure from stable clean outs

Thanks for the advice. I live in the north and have snowfall. I was thinking of making a hoop style out cattle panels, but I have been thinking about making them out of wood and steel roof because of our high winds and sometimes blizzards. I can get rough cut lumber cheap from the local mill. Being able to stand up inside the pens would be nice.

I usually make wood and metal pens as a Four Pen Unit making them more secure and cost-efficient.
Oh Yes , being able to walk around inside pen is great.
I would go with the cattle panels for sure on the hoop style and use the billboard tarps for cover.

Third day of constant rain here in San Antonio. Already finished up my work for the day (because I had a lot of work...). Gonna play Carpenter instead of Rodbuster and see if I can churn out a solid flypen. Any Tips?
