No they will fight 100% of the time after they reach 6 months which is a ballpark number.

two years ago I had bought some eggs to hatch...and even by five weeks I had to seperate the young cocks that were already starting to fight and draw blood. It can happen! This last year's never fought with each other when I finally sold one of the two roosters I had left. So this can show up early...or apparently quite late. But as stated, it's a ball park number.

Hey,. Just getting back into games I guess, as had a half Sid Taylor, half radio, cockerel, come into my possession. He was viscously defective, as was bunched into cage and had his own corner even though older and larger etc males we're constantly attacking him, because he was in first feather moult and getting exaustedly sick. Days later I got him to stop attacking my eyes face throat hands and arms, but still attacks his shadow and reflection (even water etc), n now got him in parrot cage inside until pen can be made up for him so cannot be teased by rir roo. He isn't crowing, but sometimes makes ticking sound when eats, and squacks challenge attacking at cage to get at, if sees or hears another rooster loose close or hawk. I have a pair of OEGBs in big parrot cage that are both crowing and he doesn't seem to care about them at all though they are aggressive when he gets taken past, and he is fine with scovy ducks, laying and dual hens, but gamey hens attacked him through bars when have him outside.

its a shame when people dont take care of their animals. Neglect is a form of abuse
Sounds like he is doing much better in your care. Hopefully gets a big pen of his own soon.

Game hens will do a little fighting with stags (especially if new.. and especially if caged).

he looks pretty good tho.. no severe injuries that I can see. Crowing may come soon, looks a little young to be crowing still.

well, you and I have something in common! Really, in common with anyone wanting the perfect gamefowl. Ultimately it's up to you. What are you looking for exactly? Because everyone has their own reasons for wanting this breed. So will take a lot of research and then hoping you find an honest breeder that has what your looking for. I'm seeing birds advertised in the The Gamecock magazine from 200 to 1000 dollars for just ONE rooster. For me personally, I bought a good incubator and bought a set of eggs off of ebay. Even on there a dozen eggs can sell for over a 100! And there's no guarantee even one egg will hatch! And usually with shipped eggs you get less than half to hatch. But again, how much do you trust the seller? I was sold gray gamefowl eggs last spring and only half hatched were actually gray gamefowl. The others that hatched were reds. Just my personal findings. Good luck!
They can be expensive. Cost comes from proven lines and breeders usually. But you can get good fowl from honest hobby breeders for cheap or free.
I paid 10$ for one of my best because the guy wasn't breeding them, just getting rid of feral/free range that lived in his yard.

So I could keep just one American Gamefowl rooster as a pet? Would he need hens for company or would human interaction be enough? He would live outside but be brought inside frequently to be babied and loved. I think it’s a bit too early for me to start getting show quality birds. I do love the idea of getting nonbreeder AGF. What about taking in an ex-fighting rooster?

Thank you all for your replies. I am going to have to find a way to get my hands on one (or 2) of these exquisite roosters. Can you post a picture of the prettiest color variety of AGF in your opinion?

Stop while your ahead. You already said you can’t keep roosters? So why are you trying?

Adopting a rooster would be good idea.. but I dont know where to get them.

You can probably find a lot on craigslist that could use good homes. Usually kept in pairs or trios (1 Rooster and 1or2 hens).
Pairs in 4'x4' pen minimum... trios in 4'x8' minimum.
