I know they have great dexterity! What about 1/2" x 1/2"? It is not as heavy, but the openings are smaller. I though about making the roost pole so the stag would sleep in the center, but if coons work the cage, I do not want them reaching in.

I would think the 1/2 x 1/2 would be good.

makes sense. drip tube is basically round already.
She was a raver and made all that stuff, but that was about 10 years ago, she slightly more "normal" now.

I thought about the drip tubing as I have some in the barn, but it is not as rigid and my wife said the hula hoops are a buck at the dollar store in the spring.

wrap the bottom with 12" high .5" hardware cloth and stake them to the ground you'll be fine I'd imagine

yes wrap the .5x1" then hardware cloth over it. So 2 layers. Ziptying

Say lmljsl you don't think schedule 40 PVC would be stronger than hula hoop? It's cheap enough. 3" round should be an 8' piece

You could use conduit. I used conduit for all my dome pens to support the roof. I just screwed it on each side to the base 2x4’s.
