Is your old timer an old one or new. They haven’t been made in America in a long time and are pretty sh*tty nowadays.
I was wondering that. I have an Oldtimer I was given as a kid. It is is my favorite knife and has been very good. Trouble is, it is a small knife and my son is always borrowing it for carving projects. I looked at a newer one for him, but didn't get it. Anyone have any suggests for a small folding knife?

How old is your son? Fixed blade knives are actually safer than folding knives. Dedicated actual carving knives are best but don’t have the same nostalgia as a small slip joint plus you can’t just slip em in your pocket.

Those flex cut knives are great and safe.

My favorite for screwing around whittling type stuff and the knife I always have is this Boker whittler.

He is 9. Yeah he likes something he can put in his pocket. The Old Timer I have is 3.25" closed with three blades. It fits him well, but I like it too.

That one looks nice. How do the blades hold up?
Case medium stockman with CV blades will be cheaper and easier to sharpen. The Boker is a better knife and overall better steel but it’s around $50. The case knife will be somewhere around $30 or so. Both will rust but the carbon steel is better. Little oil wipe down every now and then it’ll be fine.

Thanks, much appreciated!
