Most of time allow bird to walk out where you then pick it up. Flighty birds I lay down next to pen then pull it over me so I am in the pen as well. Then slowly and gently grasp bird by the body.

All will go to another pen and attempt to scrap but that might be considered baiting.

I bait to catch free rangers.

I use wire round pen to catch chickens... I have plastic netted "lid/roof" ziptied... I can reach into from top but birds cant fly out... bend it to oval and grab the chicken by base of tail and pull him out where my arms went in

Thanks. I am still toying with round pens. I can bend a piece of 10' conduit into a hoop for the top and bottom support. I don't have a guard dog or fence, so will probably go with 1/2 wire on the sides and metal roofing on the top. I am undecided on a door... No door, side door in the wire or hinge part of the roof?

I have 46 dome pens. 42 don’t have doors. I get in there with them and grab them. Only young stags are a little nervous. Most just stand there and wait to be picked up.

I’ve got about 4-5 I’ll tease out with another rooster. He’ll jump right up and I can catch him out of the air usually with the other bird in my other hand. Takes some practice though.

If its 4ft tall Id go with side door. hard to reach at that height.

I try catching from bottom sometimes... but it wouldn't work if it was perfectly round, because arms arent long enough to reach to other side. I bend into oval to reach. And Always that chance they bust out from under.
