Purposeful mixing is very different my friend keep doing your thing. You are adding two very game lines to your blood so you will be okay

Hawks are rough to have to deal with at least she made it through

Actually they go down pretty easily or so I've heard. That hen is a dark brahma and could just about withstand a 400lb bomb dropped on her. She as big as a house lol

She is alive so any way you look at it she is a winner. Only thing could have been better is to come out to her pecking on the dead hawk.

Ok been along time since I been on here. Building new pens for new additions. Buti have a question. I have a very hatch hen who hatched one dang egg now doesn't want to stay n sit on the other eggs!! My incubator is full n their into like 1 1/2 weeks of incubation! So humidity isn't right for the ones that need to hatch now!! Any suggestions on what I can do?? About to go crazy!!,

Take the chick that has hatched if you haven't already don't move the nest or if you did put it back. Put the chick in a small aired box and place behind or in the nest box. She should sit once she doesn't find the chick and you have taken it so she can't hear it call. My hens would just go find new eggs to sit on if I took there's or their chicks on day one.

Place paper towels soaked with hot water into incubator.


Hen coming off early can mean chicks hatching out slow or she is in poor condition.

Knock on wood I haven't had many problems with predators of any kind this year. I employ 4 for 1. If I lose 1 chicken to a (insert predator) I take a minimum of 4 before I stop. Except with foxes. I'll kill them all, pups too.
