The brown ones come like thisThe brown and the black chicks are not going to be colored up as red quill. Only the two with chipmunkish stripes and doodles on chicks will exhibit the proper red quill color pattern. Hen carries an allele I lost when my birds lost ability to throw red quill.

You have something complicating color in your birds. Typical of games. The brown ones come like thisView attachment 1573459 so with me trying to breed good pure red quill I need to not breed the black ones I know but do I also not need to breed the brown ones?
They clearly have something else added to them recently. Doesn’t matter one bit like centra said. They all have been crossed over and over. Some more recent than others. If I were you I would forget about the color completely and focus on the good birds no matter how they come.Right but with me having two different family's of the same blood I can strive to get the best out of them with no infusion of another family for a while. So I need to breed only the chipmunk/light side or can I also breed the brown/dark side together and do away with the black side altogether?
You’re about to get the squirrel!Couldn't have said it any better, I agree.
